lock ups. Just me?

I'm getting lock ups that last for 2 to 12 seconds. The screen locks and they sound just repeat whatever was happening at the time. Then suddenly it comes good.
I'm wondering whether its my hardware or is it happening to other players as well?

I'm getting it regularly too, ever since the 3.3 update. Also the forums are incredibly slow at times to. I think FDev's server estate in general seems to be suffering. Also if you raise a ticket, then they have a stock announcement now about the volume of tickets they're having since 3.3.

No, not just you mate. I've had about 10 so far. World freezes, sound keeps playing, then after ~20 secs, everything continues silky smooth as before. Loads of people have reported it on bugs forum.

Must be just you, or there would be other threads and bug reports for it...

It keeps happening every half hour or so, and always when doing something that could mean death. Mail slot, scooping, fighting, etc..

happened to me too a few times. Thankfully the whole game progress froze or I would have hit some obstacles at very high speeds. Seems like the client tries to synchronize with the server but server telly the client to pick a number and wait its turn.

Nope, not just you. Logged on this morning to try and play again. Started off at least getting in but then the freezes started. They stopped after a bit but then the disconnects kicked in. Off to purchase something new during the steam and DCS world sale.

Thanks for the fast reply's CMDR's
My graphics card lives to fight another day :)

I hear you. When it happened to me I thought my GPU was about to fall over and expected the Blue Screen of Death. Then the game continued as if nothing had happened.

I do hope this bug is fixed soon.

Happened to me as well last night as I was nearing a NHSS. It happened in VR, which means that instead of a static screen I was greeted by the SteamVR loading screen so I assumed the game had crashed. It was only when I took off my headset that I found the game had actually hung (why does Elite draw both the VR display and a window? it's squandered GPU resources...) I decided to put the headset back on and wait a bit just in case, and a few seconds later the game resumed as if nothing had happened.

Seems like everyone is getting them, usually last around 20 seconds.

FD need to look into this as there is clearly a problem and this isn't the first thread about it.

I get it all of the time. Using a laptop and so it is expected.

1st trick: Avoid hitting more than one key, at a time.

2nd: Avoid opening Maps, Nav. panels, or any other mode window; whilst flying ship.

It is kind of nostalgic to me: Reminds me of my first adventure playing Elite, with a Sinclair P.C.; which would crash. If you coughed.

I had several last night, some between 2 and 15 seconds. I've learned not to head directly to a planet but instead aim just above, below or to the side if doing the planet scan. Last thing I need is to face-plant into a planet. I know they'll get fixed but sheesh.

The server disconnects are what really grind my gears. Not just the disconnects but trying to get back in. Watch the ship spin for 1.5 minutes, then "unable to connect", try again and 3 seconds later you're back in. Very consistent in that regard. I tolerate it because I know that after every update there's "turbulence" that follows as the gravity waves roll outward from the main server farm.

Yup, I had several today too, plus a few server connection failures. For thelockups, I find that just waiting them out seems to work.

Yeah same. Thought it was just me since my graphics card is circa 2012 and runs at ~100% for Elite, but yeah.

In the worst cases, it causes a matchmaking server timeout :/
