My ship blew up

So I was flying through a belt looking to Mine and my Corvette clipped an asteroid I got to close to and my Ship just blew up. I have no clue why it did. I've clipped them before and this never happened.

Gotta say, it was kind of brutal. To have happen.

Probably one of those destroyable asteroids and you clipped it hard enough to make it spontaneously explode :D

That would never happen in an engineered Corvette. You'd be able to split an asteroid by multiple high speed ramming runs without suffering any hull damage lol. But was it engineered, did it have big shields or tiny little things ? To many variables to comment without knowing the details

Some asteroids rotate quite fast and are quick lumpy, if you got hit by a lump coming round corner, that could damage you quite a bit.

Next question (adopts best traffic cop voice) ... Would you care to tell me how fast you were going sir? 🤔

ive had this happen to my cutter.. came in with a full load, bumped the station, and instanly exploded. my cutter has around 2500mj shield and it was gone in an instand.
