How to join conflict zone

Only played this game since it started.

Apparently don't know how to join a conflict zone.

Without sarcasm: how do you actually join a conflict zone?

When you jump in and the battle starts, you should get an option to choose a side in your comms panel.

Pick CZ, enter.

Fly within around 9-7klicks of the CZ signal; giant message appears in Comms; select side from Comms tab.

If the above doesn't work, could be bugz. I've seen myself a few CZs with nothing but debris, and others have had various weirdness.

Thanks. Vindelamos, I recognise you from times previous.

"Welcome aboard, CMDR."

Urm, where are all the ships? I'll try jumping in and out again...

Oh dear, the new system...

I haz bugs but not yorz stuff...

Thanks for the helpz though, CMDRs!

OK, so I ate too much turkey and tinfoil.

Still not working. Although I now know it's via the comms panel. Just no combat.

I think I better log off and try tomorrow.

Good lord, this has been difficult, thanks for your support, CMDRs!

lol - yeah, there is some word of the CZs being bugged. Try another one.

I tried a few CZ's but they were all vacant so I gave up.

Next, I found one of the system installations and hung out to kill the raiders who were after the Lucky Charms.

Just find an installation in your system. It will be marked like this one.

Then wait for the Missions to pop up and pick one...

I picked "Defend" so then you kill the bad guys...

I often find it impossible to actually get the menu open where you select your side in the CZ. I tried about 25 times on one occasion, but most of the time the menu did not appear at all and the few times when it did appear, it vanished again after one second and if it did stay open longer I was not always able to select anything. Also on most occasions where when I finally could choose my side and could start fighting, all friendly ships turned red on me after a while, forcing me to break of the battle. I could only complete a small number so far, it is not worth the effort this way. I have been in very many CZs and used to feel at home there, but I have never experienced anything like this.
Seriously bugged!
I am using the Oculus Rift, which may or may not give extra problems after 3.3

Confirmed that standard CZs appear to be empty. Although, at times, the ships do appear. I'll Xious' suggestion and try and find an installation.

If you pledge to a side, it'll spawn a scenario. I dropped into one and nothing was there until I pledged. Then a friendly group of Spec Ops showed up with the assignment to kill the enemy Spec Ops group.

So far I've been seeing a wide variety of scenarios playing out for my faction Attacking the enemy stronghold (there are attack and defense areas for missions now.) Even had a friendly cap ship pop in to add in fire support. It was armed with all beams and making short work of everything it was shooting at. Can't comment on Low or Medium. High has been interesting and intense at times (I don't carry SCBs on my FdL anymore.)

So are you saying that going to a CZ is not enough? Once or twice, I've dropped in and chosen a side, then the fight ensues. However, that is rare. In other words, do I have to pledge to a side outside of a CZ, then travel to one?

You can only choose a side after you enter the CZ.... afterwhich, I hear a radio message saying "Thank you for joining CMDR" and look up and see nobody there at all... creepy.

No, when I say pledge I mean from within the CZ. You pick one side or the other. Until you do, the game can't assign you specific mission objectives.
