How long will Frontier support Elite Dangerous

All online games that come onto the market are pot-luck for players these days. Many promise wonders beyond belief and end up being bog-standard with disappointed players leaving them in large numbers. Many on here could mention quite a few of them.

The other thing to bear in mind is that's it would be feasible for a "final" patch to roll all the server side stuff into the client so you could get "offline solo" mode forever.

That seems to me to be the sort of "exit" that fits with DB and how he comes across.

Elite was after all (and still us to an extent) a solo player game at the heart of it, other players just adds some further variety (and supercruise)

How long will Frontier support Elite Dangerous?

I guess not many people can know for sure? It depends on many things. However how long can you be playing ED into the future? Well as long as you want, in much the same way you can load up Elite, Frontier or FFE on your PC even now.

And if you look at a project like FFED3D, who knows what amazing things people will be doing with it!

It's even worse with small indie multiplayer games. They often launch with player numbers lower than what could ever support a healthy community (you need a minimum number of people for a multiplayer game to not become effectively deserted), and naturally, those numbers tend to decline after a few days. It's no surprise many people have started to regard small multiplayer-only games as "dead on release" due to these circumstances.

What do you mean with "was"? They still are.
And yes, FD has other games in the pipeline besides Elite: Dangerous. I think they said while E: D is the main project, only half of their staff is working on it.

Yes, but it would be incorrect to mix tenses in the sentence. Replace 'was' with 'is' and it doesn't sound correct in context.

It has been mentioned they hope to keep it going for "the next 10 years" or so...

However even if for some reason the servers go offline in the future, there's always Solo Offline, so you can still run it, play it... just not in MP mode.

From memory, 'the next 10yrs' was in regard to providing updates and expansions, not simply maintaining operations.
