Okay WTH is with the new ADS?????

...
The point of have different cockpit modes must be so that we can not fear hitting the guns while scanning, or the scanner while fighting. But then why not put more safety latches (or just explaination) about which bindings are safe to re-use and which will accidentally fire off when you don’t want them to.
Like, heatisnk will still fire off in scanning mode, but will chaff? They leave it to us to figure those out and experiment with the bindings to find a combination that will work and won’t fire chaff while trying to scan.
I kind'a like the different modes being separate but why even have the guns come up when scrolling thru the firegroups in scan mode, same for scanning tools when in kill mode? just scroll the relevant firegroups.

Adaptive Zoom Failed. The most common cause is not being lined up with the target. Bodies are noted by a circle when tuned, and there is a reticle in your HUD indicator that needs to be inside that circular marker.

Gotcha. Someone had also sent me a message that said it could be two moons very close together? If the target body is behind the other it can block it I’m told, which makes sense. Kind of a funny feeling that I’ve probably got 2k+ hours between my original console account and my PC account on this game and I’m a total noob now haha. Spent a little time this morning with it before work and although I’m still definitely working on getting a grasp of it and the nuances of the system I did manage to locate a 49 earth mass ammonia world in the system I’m parked in :0 that’ll give me an opportunity to practice with these new scan probes.

I do wish they fed us more explaination about which binds could be reused from other controls like combat bindings.

Yeah. I too think the modes could be useful but not without explicit clarity about which modules work in which modes. I don’t want a pop-up window spamming me with a generic message every time I pull the trigger I want to know BEFORE I even set up the fire group which weapon/module will function. (Also FDev: YOUR POP UP WINDOW SPAM IS NOT HELPFUL ESPECIALLY SEEING AS IT DOES NOT NAME THE MODULE WHICH IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE MODE) This kind of dead-stupid clueless interface design really drives me up the wall and honestly it’s indefensible at this point to have things in the state they are in, especially after overhauling the entire interface layout and yapping about how awesome their headlight icon is.

Ah nice :) I’ll have a look see at that thanks :) Right now I’m using a game pad and setting some of my binds to a keyboard as well to avoid the finger gymnastics that comes along with the limited inputs a game pad provides. All this new stuff gets me thinking maybe it’s an excuse to get myself a good HOTAS finally :p

Wait till you use the F(f)s for more than 20 times in a row. Zoom in and out will have an entire new meaning afterwards.

I’m in a system now with over 40 bodies in it so I have a feeling I’ll know what you mean sooner rather than later lol. Haven’t had too much time with it, obviously, and still figuring it all out, but one of the new things I would revert is the discovery roll. Before when you honked you’d get a little message in the corner “x new bodies discovered” now its a 3 second message for every body in the system. When you’re out deep and you get a run of systems that have 50+ or even 100+ bodies in a system, I think the “ding ding ding” of the new message system might get a little old. Maybe just have the number of bodies pop up and have a list show in the discovery log or even system map off to the side. I’ll give it a go tho and see what it’s all like.

Those popup messages are from things that are being passively discovered because you are close to them. Those happen to mainly be asteroid belts. The full body count still pops up for me right after I honk.

I do wish we could turn off the discovery message for asteroid belts though because sometimes they are still popping up after I have FSSd found and the body type is hidden behind the discovery pop.

While I could have bound my Warthog and/or MFD controls to the FSS and DSS I have, for now, decided to use an Xbox wireless controller for both of these functions. My only wish is that you could bind another control just for firing the probes. I bound my D-Pad up control as a secondary fire button so I don't have to grab the stick and fire the probe from there.

I agree. Let's face it, if it has discovered one cluster of an asteroid belt, it must have found all the others - so maybe they can change this to just say the field / belt has been discovered. The you would only get multiple messages for multiple asteroid belts.

How many new players have just given up on ED after this new added complexity?
I remember back to my first few hours of gameplay, just taking off and leaving the station was a major undertaking.
Now they have to contend with entering another mode(?!)using some confusing controls that may or may not be bound.
It's not intuitive,FD should change that.

The game needs more depth!!!

NOO! Shallow! I meant the game needs to be more shallow!!!

Setting up your keybinds is half the game, lol. Seriously, could we possibly get a way to do this in game? It's really annoying to have to return to the main menu every time something doesn't work.

Things don't work because you didn't set the default config or binded them manually. Setting them ingame is a weird idea and probably wouldn't work.

Been away for a while and come back to find the discovery scanner is totally different. Not only are there about 30 controls now instead of the honk but they all, helpfully, come UNBOUND out of the gate and NONE are explained. There isn’t even any new training videos or scenarios on it.

There's a training video under "Exploration" in the training videos menu, or here :

There's also a mini tutorial in game : Options => Full Spectrum System Scanner => Show Help

OP. There is loads of help available if you know where to look:

  • In-game FSS help (check controls for the keybinding)
  • Check patch notes for 3.3
  • Watch FDev exploration video
  • Watch FDev live streams when they show case how the new systems work
  • Watch Obsidian Ant "how to" FSS video
  • Watch Down 2 Earth "how to" FSS video

Plus there is good old trial and error activist approach; just experiment.

Anything that disagrees with their very specific definitions of "depth" is considered "over complex".
FDEV must delivery everything according to their specifications, otherwise it sucks.

Keep the complexity just make it more accessible, its not a complaint, its feedback.
As the game gains more features and more complexety is added FD need to keep a handle on the new player expierience and ensure it doesn't turn into a minefield of key remapping and mode switching.

Planets or moons eclipsing each other don’t cause Zoom Failure. 99% of the time you will zoom in closer until there is enough separation to scan each. Zoom Blocks can and does happen if a body is behind a star, and it can be hard to tell if a body is behind or directly in front of a star. It does take some getting use to, but once you do, it becomes intuitive.
