Is an exploration Annie worth it?

Old -> SLF for fast canyon racing. New-> extra jump range. Is that the main difference?

Pretty much. A bit easier to squeeze extra SRVs in the Mk2 as well. You lose about 5LY with the Mk2... its probably worth it if you want the SLFs, its not like DW2 is going at a very fast pace.

I love my 'Conda & go on all my trips since I bought it after DWE.

OK it steers like a canal barge but it carries everything I want....AMFU, SRV, Fighter Bay.

A decent jump range, I'v been to Beagle Point with it, with ease blazing through the Abyss & I'm looking forward to the DWE2 trip int a couple of weeks.

I'd say it's worth it.

Personally i would advise against for exploration. For buckyballing, ok.

Basically its the SC manouverability, it drives me nuts. Took one on Distant Worlds 1. For DW2 i'm going in a Krait Phantom.

Yeah, I'd agree with the above.. Was going to take my 80+LY conda on DW2, but the SC ability puts me off, esp if I want to fully map. For practical purposes a krait phantom is right in the sweet spot.

Just contemplating...

Should I buy one? I love my Asp, and my Krait... but I hear the Annie steers like an oil tanker. Is it really that bad? Has anyone got one, then regretted it?

Thanks guys.

I took mine out to the Monkey Head Nebula. Had a good time. This was long before the new FSS, and I had no issues with it's handling.

It's great for endurance exploration using many neutron stars, because it can pack everything needed to repair itself, and repair it's repair modules.

That said, I don't do 'endurance' exploration, so I'll probably take the Krait Phantom out next time. :)

To a large extent , the importance of range is overrated for exploration. The vast majority of the galaxy can be reached by lower range ships. Apart from some edge cases, all you're doing is jumping past a lot of systems with your 'seven league boots'

  • Horrible cockpit view.
  • Poor handling.
  • Harder to land on planets than an smaller ships
  • Great internals
  • Great jump range
  • Can have an SLF

Personally, I prefer the Asp

Running a 6d myself. I keep everything shut down that I don't need. SC temp is 26. Scoops fast.

Edit; I think some of the trick is to be sure that you are not using most or all of PP capacity. A real expert might answer this. YMMV

Power plants are a curious thing. The one size smaller A rated is better in every category than the size larger D rated. More power, lighter, and much cooler. The only drawback is the cost. If cost is not an issue, the smaller A rated is always better.

Yes, it's absolutely worth it.

The Aconda is big and kinda sluggish, it's true. But thanks to the FSS, I can park near the star and I'll only need to approach a planet if I find something interesting and I want a closer look with the probes.

There are upsides to flying a ship that size. She's durable for a start, and she'll fit all the modules you could want to take. I'm carrying two fighters, four SRVs, two AFMUs, a repair limpet controller and a MASSIVE (1245 T/s) fuel scoop, and she still has a 60 light year jump range, so she's very fast when it comes to crossing distance. I'm gonna be spending a while over at the far side of the galaxy again so a "kitchen sink" approach works well for me, and the Anaconda has room for everything.

I've only been out on my expedition since very early Christmas morning, and we've already covered over 30KLy. Tonight we leave the Errant Marches and we're looking to find a way into the Aquila Halo.

So yes, absolutely. The anaconda is a resounding yes vote from me.

Thanks guys.

If you need jump range, accept no substitute.

In any other aspect, it is worse than the ASPX and Krait Phantom.

to bad they disabled polls. The Annie is probably the most Hated/Loved ship in the game. It would have been interesting to see how a poll would have ended up on this subject. I am not a big fan due mostly to the view and the placements of the HPs. OTOH I love my vette which has a simular but somewhat better view from the cockpit.

The good thing for the OP is that if they did get an Anaconda and didn't like it, the engineered modules would still fit something else (not necessarily another explorer though). Selling it would give them enough credits to buy and outfit most other ships.

Worth a try, if you don't like it, no big deal imo.

Performance/extreme long range endurance exploration, Annie? Anything less, Asp etc?

Some people love it and some hate it.

I can't say I love it, but I do like it. It doesn't have the best handling, but it does have the best jump range and optionals.

You're absolutely right. The range is good for the edge/fringe, but also for quickly go between places. And in my case, for DW2, I'm bringing a fuel transfer limpet and repair limpets, so to reach those who might be out there on hard to get places, it's good to have the range. Also, even with extra fuel tank, and it being full, I now can do almost 72 ly jumps.

I've bought one twice (years apart), hated it, and quickly sold it. The only large ship I ever fly is my Type-9, which I haven't flown in many months. For exploration, imo, it's hard to improve upon an AspX.

While true, there's another reason to improve your jump range: It reduces your fuel use (even for shorter hops). That means less scooping, to cover the same distance.

I have a passenger Annie , full of class 5 cabins, and after careful engineering get 60 Lys fully loaded ( I make the Robigo to Sirius Atmospherics in one jump. o7

Thanks guys.

I got about 75ly with a fully kitted out Exploraconda but the handling killed it for me, especially when landing on high G worlds. Sold it and got a very well kitted out, 65ly Phantom which is a lot easier to fly and does everything I needed the Conda to do bar the hanger bay (which I installed for fun and to relieve the boredom on the Conda).
