In the spirit of being environmentally friendly, I'm recycling replies I have made to previous Space Legs threads. From a purely technical perspective I have no doubts FD could implement SL. But the crucial matter is content - without this it becomes a boondoggle.
On the matter of walking around the ship and interacting with panels: This was done in EVE. It was novel the first 2 or 3 times I used it. Didn't use it after that. I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't be faffed to get off my backside to change TV channels when I can just use the remote instead, so I don't see anything intrinsically compelling about walking across a virtual cockpit to muck around with switches etc. Likewise with shopping; I can do most of that on my phone without bothering to get up either, so the idea of walking through a space station to do trading face to face doesn't wow me either. Yeah, I'm lazy.
On the matter of walking around stations and socializing: I see a recurring complaint from a number of people that there is too much flying through space (!) in this game. So I don't know how sympathetic a reception walking along corridors will get. There is a more compelling argument that flying through space is a core game element for ED whereas CorridorCruiseTM has less legs to it (ha ha see what I did there?).
On the matter of ship boarding: In the context of this game I have to wonder how satisfying this will actually be? I suspect the image that comes to mind is the boarding of the cruiser at the beginning of Star Wars. In the ED scheme of things though in the majority of cases this would be 1v1 PvP wouldn't it? You start at opposite ends of a ship corridor, which for some ships could be really small, and ... then what? Fastest on the draw wins? Hope you don't lag or have a naff ping? Boarding a Sidewinder would involve politely asking the pilot to move his luggage so you can get in to fight him.
