Steam VR on Rift

I can not get steam vr to launch ED in VR, the focus goes straight to oculus and steam vr never starts
I can start steam vr beforehand, but it makes no difference to the end result.
I have reinstalled everything and have unknown sources ticked in oculus.

I would just delete the steam version and install through the Oculus store especially if you plan on using Oculus dash while in game.

You can get a free partner key to download it on Oculus. https://www.frontierstore.net/frontier_partnerkeys/index/index/

Having the same issue. I have no desire at all to use the Oculus software for anything, much less for a duplicate install. I'm assuming it's an Oculus problem here since the game is running fine flat and the desktop mirror runs when I start in VR.

SteamVR is a seperate feature from main steam platform..

A vr game like Elite that natively support the rift, and most does by now apart from some smaller projects.
And for all of these titles you do not need steamvr and nor would you want it.

for titles that doesn't natively support Oculus steamvr will launch as a compatibility layer between the game and the oculus drivers and software solution.

If you don't want to use any oculus related software you really should not own anything from oculus.

As mentioned the RIFT MUST HAVE it's software side and the steamvr run time client compatability layer.

Without the Oculus software side of things the rift is a useles paperweight that would not work regardless.

I understand what you are saying and I bought the Rift for it's superior image. I want to run through steamvr in order to use motion cancellation which the oculus sdk can't do.

No, that doesn't work. For example, when accelerating the consul in game will move towards me and then away from me when decelerating. Very disorientating.

The camera would need to be subject to all movement, as your body would.

Sounds like you mounted them to a point not affected by surge.
From what I have seen around one place to mount would be on an arm attached to the back of the seat itself.

I see what you are saying. I had them mounted at the centre point of the rig.
Do I need to find a place to mount both cameras, or would just one work.
Thanks for the help.

The rift system works just fine with one camera as well.
And a seated sim you are unlikely to move out of tracking range at all.

So just one camera should do swimmingly.

For me the greates benefit to having two cameras was that my cat quickly learned that sitting in front of it was a very quick way to getting my attention.
With two I would still maintain tracking :p
