Will you pre-order the next DLC? I will... and that's why:

No, I wouldn't pre-order the next instalment of DLC.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game for the first couple of years, and got a lot of enjoyment out of the 3rd year.
This year however has seen the changes made by Frontier start to take away from my enjoyment.

If they offer an exclusive ship for pre-ordering to go with my Cobra mk4 I will. :D

Would I pre-order the next dlc?

It depends.
If it's a combat oriented dlc, definitely not.
If it's something else, probably.

ED is my number one game that I play, I'll buy anything that expands my experience and fun with it, except when it's combat oriented.
Beyond increased my fun with the game considerably too but I can't be bothered with the Mamba.

I wouldn't pre-order anything, I would want to see what is on offer first. After seeing how Frontier "alter the deal further" with things like carriers, ice-planets, and the exploration FFF ditching / unavoidable new changes, I'm less likely again.

Probably won't be for a while anyway :)

I don't normally pre-order software (but did with Thief's End on PS4...) but think that the next DLC may just be worth the risk, the exploration changes (FSS/DSS) must have been introduced for a reason other than aggravating a few 'hardcore' explorers, so yes, I'll pre-order if the opportunity presents, but only on 1 of my accounts :)

No, preordering something with limitless supply makes no sense. If there's an interesting bonus, I might buy it the day before release.

If Fdev had to kickstart the next expansion, I'd pitch in. But more than likely most of the work is done and people paid by the time a preorder offer comes.

Pre-order of a digitally distributed product makes zero sense. I never do it.

However if Fdev chuck in goodies exclusive to that pre-order..... Given that i love Elite and might want those doodads...

Maybe..... just maybe....

Would I pre-order?

Perhaps; do I get anything extra for it that I won't if I don't?

If no, still perhaps. I'll be getting any paid expansion anyway on release.

If they dont skimp on the preorder bonuses.

At least one new ship and a full paint set and im there. If they do less than last time, well message delivered.

[snip]

TL,DR, Horizon was not 100% what they (and we) expected and they don't want to make the same mistake twice. So, by pre-ordering the new DLC in good quantities, we, the players, may be able to assure that the content for the future DLC won't be scaled down or rushed, or let in the hands of the (no offense) B team.

It will be a clear message, like "Go on, make it 100%, we'll buy it no matter what" or something beyond those lines. What do you think?

I think we tried that 6 years ago and it didn't work.

How does that suggestion fit with the faith we put in FDev in the KS - some people paying THOUSANDS (and at least one backer I know around £10,000 GBP) to help fund the game outlined in the KS and devblogs.

We're still waiting for that game to appear - they have been paid ALREADY.

It's been four years since product launch, where is the rest of it?

Mugur, your faith is admirable - but it won't be reciprocated by FDev because it hasn't so far and with 3.3 the way I was released I doubt it will either.

(sure sure the monies they had then has already been spent - on other things like CdC & multicrew that no-one uses nd powerplay that only a small percentage of the playerbase use - they made that choice on their own).

In FDev's proven track record, Pre-payment leads to apathy, and poor production values.

It's about time they FULLY develop a package, properly beta test it under an NDA and then release it and let us decide if it's worth buying WITHOUT presales - if FDev have faith in their own product, they won't need peoples money beforehand will they?

It's not as though they are broke (although they are definitely poorer than they were).

Edit: After reading the rest of the 4 pages it's an overwhelming "no - I want to see if it's worth it" and after 3.3, you can't blame them.

I'd also quite like to see some other way of describing LEP owners other than Lep(p)er - for pretty obvious reasons. (for those that don't understand, a Leper is a person with the disease Leprosy, which still exists in some parts of the world, is severe and causes significant disfigurement and occsional limb loss. Those people with it were (are) treated as outcasts and shunned by the rest of ignorant society as unclean as if they were covered in excrement (despite it being not highly contagious).

Whereas the ED LEP owners were the ones that ensured the game got made at all, and deserve a better label.

Why not just call us "LEP owners" - it's not like there's a worldwide shortage of letters for the internet is it?

"Maybe if we give them enough money upfront sight-unseen they'll be able to make the end product better because they'll know we have faith in them."

Star Citizen is that way: down the hall second door on the left.

You'll be eating those words one day.

That's double sided blade. On one hand you send a message as above.
OTOH devs get - no matter what they cook, players will still buy it. Be it good or half baked. Plus, lots of pre-orders put a stress onto devs - people pre-ordered and they HAVE TO release it. Even half baked. Al least they'll patch it later.

I'm very cautious about pre-orders myself, tho I do it from time to time. Mostly with well known and established titles like WoW expansions (for a €40 or whatever the expansion price is you get €60 worth character boost, on top of entire expansion). Other games... not so much. Recent history showed that devs tend to overhype their product and in the end you cash out to get half baked game, with lots of bugs, weird face animations (I'm looking at you, ME Andromeda), lack of story and microtransactions everywhere.

Pre-ordering is buying promises. Sadly, there is no power to force devs to actually deliver those promises. And they will always find excuses to not to fulfill their claims. Later than sooner it may be fulfilled, but for the grand premiere it may be lacking in features. For which you already paid in advance. So CMDR Exigious is right in his statement. But this doesn't mean we can't support blindly devs we trust.
