General / Off-Topic Forum Etiqutte

Speaking of, got my first official infraction the other day. How does that work? Are these "points" like notoriety, decaying over time, or will they hang over my head like Damocles' sword for the rest of time?

I'm always amazed how some people can spit out "nasty comments" like a Gatling gun with no apparent reprisal, while others say something slightly edgy, but in the spirit of good humor, and yet are thrown in cuffs. Then again, with all the time I end up wasting in the forums, it might do me good IRL to get banned, LOL.

It can be refreshing, in a way. I've done it three times. :)

Improved grammar is a good resolution.
In that case the title should read "Etiquette", but alas...

That's a spelling mistake.

Difference between grammar and spelling
Spelling is the correct arrangement of letters to write a word. Grammar is the correct arrangement of words to form a sentence. Punctuation is the correct arrangement of marks among words in a sentence, to enable comprehension. There are also incorrect spelling, grammar, and pronunciation, any of which can cause confusion.

Improved speeling will be available as a dlc.

12) Do not contest/discuss a moderation action in public.
Moderator actions aren’t always correct; if you feel that a moderation action was performed against you incorrectly, please see the final post on how to appeal. Openly posting about a moderation action upon you or others on the forums will not be permitted.

I got banned for saying "your posts make me laugh". While others seem to get away with continuous insults.

I have also had completely innocuous posts removed for no apparent reason.

These things happen though.

I think it depends on the moderator who is dealing with it. Saying that I expect to get banned again for saying this as I think it maybe against the rules. Doesn't bother me anymore though as I am on the verge of leaving the forums.

Reddit seems a more pleasant place at the moment, which I never thought I would ever say.

It is hard to believe that you and Patrick_68000 had infractions. Generally polite folks, IMHO.

It is true that some sanctions were disproportionate I find.

However they were in majority in agreement with the forums rules.

The thread on the Brexit was devastating for many Cmdrs, I think :p

I have one infraction (of which I'm not proud). Apparently I was badgering one poor soul.

Warning deeply irritating song

And if you are banned, you cannot contest it because you can't access your account. If this was a court of law, you were found guilty and the punishment was death, it would be like saying you are only allowed to contest(appeal) this after you have recieved your punishment, basically when you are dead. I am happy that these forums are not a court of law.

No more postings or links to news Items that appeared in the Daily Mail.

Aww. lol.

I generally enjoy your posts, even if I don't have a clue what they're about most of them (Daily 'Star' reader here, you see). :D

Infractions? I've had a few but then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do .. and saw it through without White Knighting.
And though I planned, each plotted course, each careful scoopable .. along the byway
More, much more than this. I did it my way.

Keep on doing that I reckon. That's my plan anyway. HNY Cmdrs.

Three infractions here. A bit like UK driving offences, infractions carry points and points can mean prizes temporary bans from the forum for certain periods of time. Looking back through my "criminal record" (which is permanently etched onto your Profile, although possibly only for you to see ... can anyone else see mine?) posting in the wrong thread (e.g. golden rule violations in focused feedback threads) carries 0 points and is just a warning; "insulting other members" (this may depend on the nature of the insult, mine was flipping someone an ascii art finger) carries 2 points and, iiirc, comes with something like a 2 day ban; and "public moderator contestment" (mine was an outrageous miscarriage of justice partly due to thread merging and partly due to me poking a mod' with a stick until they finally snapped) carries 5 points and comes with a multi-week ban (might have been a month).

My forum etiquette new years resolution? Errr ... flip less ascii birds, don't argue with the mod's and generally continue doing what I've been doing 'cos it seems to go down fairly well with most people.

Happy 3305 everyone! :D

Well I had no idea that you all were a bunch of rebels, LOL. I don't feel so bad about my infraction after all :D

That said, I'm normally a "law abiding citizen", so I'll do my best to behave.

Speaking of, I just answered my own question (did an experiment). If I try to add you to my ignore list, I get "Sorry, Ozric is a listed as a protected user on these forums. Your account permissions do not allow you to ignore them." Yet when moderators have posted something "offensive" and I've called them on it, they say, "I'm not a moderator right now, I'm just a normal user like you!" If this is the case, then I should be able to ignore any moderator who isn't "wearing the badge", yet obviously I cannot.

This doesn't seem right. :(

 - "public moderator contestment"

See you in a couple of weeks Old Duck! ;)

P.S. I just knew this thread would be skating on thin ice! [haha]

Well I can show you a thread where a moderator actively proves he is NOT a moderator unless there is the "blue glow of authority", so technically I'm just contesting another forum user right now :p

I'll still get banned, LOL.

ps - just don't take my bug reports away, please! I may be an old coot with no etiquette, but my bug reports are top notch [yesnod]
