The mechanics are I agree but I still have issues with the gameplay, such as
1. No risk vs reward with deep core mining (I'd like bigger rewards and higher risks)
2. What is there new to discover and how long reasonably should a player be expected to search for it in the RNG galaxy with permit locks being as they are?
Frontier have improved things with Beyond 100% agree, we still have the same old problems with content, persistence and risk vs reward imho.
Even in my OP, I make it pretty clear that I still have issues with the mechanics they've given us.....& I have made it clear over the last couple of months what those issues are.....primarily the ability to travel more than 30km/s when using the FSS, & giving us at least some situational awareness whilst in the FSS UI.
As far as Deep Core Mining, I feel there are already more than sufficient rewards for that-as the recent Void Opal story proves-but I agree that the risk is insufficient. Failure to get to a safe distance should wipe out shields & cause major hull damage.....but I digress. The biggest issues with Mining, IMO, is the need to merge the Mining Laser & Abrasion blaster into a single module (Hardpoint Creep); making Limpets into Ammo, not cargo, & giving us a Master Limpet Controller. I also feel that each surface deposit should yield 1-2 fragments (some may rarely even yield 3), whilst sub-surface deposits should release 1-4 fragments per detonation (depending on the size of the blue section you detonate in).
As for point 2, I am finding no problems at all with discovering entirely new stuff (well, new to me at any rate). The Codex is a massive help in that regard.
