Thanks! Pretty much what I was looking for. Really appreciate it o7
Anytime! Have a look at the main Guardians discussions sticky thread as well:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/380519-Guardians-Discussions
Lots of info on the front page, although the thread itself has gone a bit quiet, as most things just get posted in the general subforum now.
The area around HD 63154 seems to be where the main concentration on the galactic map shows them to be. Granted I’m an “old” noob to the game (started on the original back in ‘85) so I’ve only been at this for a couple weeks and could be wrong.
Close enough! And welcome back to the galaxy, from another original Elite player! o7
General consensus is that the 'centre' of Guardian space is in the Regor sector, but that's still only a guess. It's based on the density of Guardian locations per unit space, and that it gets denser towards the centre. 'Centre' doesn't necessarily mean the mid-point of all sites in this context though, and there could certainly be reason to suspect that what was Guardian space wasn't spherically distributed.
I poked around a little more and it looks like the closest Guardian sector is actually within 500-600ly away. I came back to the bubble to help someone out so I can’t give an exact range at the moment.
Have a look at the Canonn (Canonn is a player group) map for reference:
https://map.canonn.tech/guardians-combo.html
The Braintree locations aren't showing properly for me, but all the sites are.
Anyway, it'd be great if you could submit the Braintree location you found so it an be added to the map! Here's the link:
https://canonn.fyi/btreport
I know it’s only one data point but it seems to be in line with a route that would link that area with the Eta Carina Nebula and the Guardian secotors there. Once I get back out there a little later I’ll post the exact range and start looking around to see what I can find.
Any location is valuable info! A major consideration as well is that the current known locations are at least in part likely to be an artefact of where has been checked; there will have been far more activity on the bubble side of Regor than the far side.
Another consideration might be that the distance that Braintrees from the Guardian locations, isn't a fixed value, but is instead related to what the Guardian population density would have been. Comprehensive searches were difficult, but things have got a lot more accessible since 3.3.
However don’t all guardian sectors show up in the civilization filter now or do they have to be found first to show up?
No, not even all found and reported sites show on the Galmap.
I found one in
Col 173 Sector HU-D C13-2 just after 3.0 dropped, and handed in the UC data. It still wasn't showing as Guardian when I went to map the relevant body after 3.3.
It didn't change after I handed the mapping data in either, though maybe it's updated since.
Anyway, on a related note, I'm intending of organising a wider community search at some point later in the New Year. Early days at the moment, but it'd be great to have you on board for it if you'd be interested!
