Billions in Cash - nothing I could possibly do with them. Am I alone?

A mate owns 24 billio ncredits, multiple Cutters, Anacondas and other expensive ships and pays 50m+ rebuys for testing purposes. He'll never get out of credits.
Personally I only grind on demand. Need a T10? Go grind some cash. Got enough + rebuys? (~300m) Alright, enough work for today. And so on. Simply because, as you correctly realized, there is no use for credits. Eve for materials, I don't even collect them unless I want to build yet another ship. Currently sitting at 14 PvP ready ships and some more conventional, non-competetve ships, I really don't grind materials.

It's a general problem. There is no endgame content. Apart from PvP, there is not even a demand to go end game. (Maybe Thargoids, but these are limited to 4 guardian weapons and can be beaten by any ship as long as you have enough synthesis with you)

I haven't pluralized my billion in raw credits, but with 71 ships to my name spread across the galaxy, I have several billion in assets tied up. So what did I do? I stopped working. I quit running missions, and started doing things like tracking down the generational ships, tracking down the INRA sites, following signals from system to system, all the many non-paying activities that make Elite interesting. Now I'm out thousands of light years, on the rim of the galaxy, making my way all the way around.

And it's been great - I'm having as much fun doing nothing as I was working myself until I bled.

That's because there is no End Game. This isn't a story-based game. There's no Princess to Save, no golden tchotchke to find. It's kind of like Life. It's over when you're dead. That's the End Game. You really want to get there?

...and all despite never grinding them Credits.

I feel like I should.... *hmm*

- employ 120 NPCs that do my daily routine or just buzz around me for kicks or pure companionship
- rent a Farragut Class Capital Ship and use it to Hyperjump into random places into the Galaxy, then explore 100LY all around it just for fun
- buy a few more Federal Corvettes and put them into Mining/Exploration roles just for lulz (wait I can't... Garage is full since almost a year already, got 3 Vessels parked "out of town" due to Ship storage limitations)
- head over to the UC offices and buy an entire uninhabited System 500LY away to Terraform and Populate it?
- maybe build me a small, secret Extraction Empire 2500LY away with a dozen NPCs hauling my Hotspot precious back into Colonia or the Bubble to sell it?
.
.
.
- or realize I'll soon own 3... 4....5...7....10 Billion Cr in Cash I realize I have absolutely no use for at all?

Serious question : what's the point?

I managed to spend about 7 billion on ships, but I have 5 very well equipped bases dotted about the bubble.

I've never had more than 100 mil Cr.

Why can't we have a socialist virtual galaxy where everyone is rich? It's just a game. Even in a game, it seems the lower classes are oppressed and forced to labor for their subsistence.

I just got back from a short exploration trip, it got me over 120 million in credits, on top of my billions I thought,.......okay, now what am I gonna spend it on, I already have 28 ships fully equipped and engineered.
Credits isn't the reason I play this game for though.

I just reset my character for the exact reason you quoted. I was triple Elite and had every ship I wanted fully engineered and was wondering what to do next and I realised I actually enjoy the journey of building my character so ........ I reset and started again.

OP, Want some excitement ? Need some fear ? Then join the kumo crew and do some power play. We need your fleet and spare billions

I dont understand some people here... First they complain that collecting cash was pain in the a** now "what to do with bilions of credits gatered"... If you have too many, try donate missions as long as your balance equals 0 :)
What is wrong with you anyways?

Really I never said a bad word that I was to short with credits or have them too many. I always tried to collect cash to buy ship that I want, outfit it and have enough about 3x times for rebuy. I'm happy about that.

Well...perhaps you noticed that the game is not finished yet. Not by a long shot. It is in the middle of development.

I hope we will eventually be able to build one or two, or three modular personal bases. They should not be cheap and perhaps cost money to maintain.
But a personal base makes more sense when fpa/fps gameplay is introduced.

I also want docking fees back in Elite.
I do not understand why they are not in the game anymore.

All kinds of reasonable costs could be added to the game.
I would not mind if changing the paint on your ship would cost a few thousand credits for example. Perhaps it should depend on the size of the ship.

Speed recharging your shields could also cost a little bit of money.

OP said he didn't grind for the credits, so they just came his way while he did what he wanted (which is entirely possible). And he has a point - once you have all the ships/modules/whatever you want, there isn't much, at least at the moment, to do with the rest of your credits, aside from coming up with creative ways to part with it (like you suggested).

There's nothing wrong with having more money than you know what to do with, or with your approach either. [smile]

I keep hoping eventually I'll have enough credits to make Arissa notice me. I figure that's going to take a LOT of credits (enough to buy my own Imperial Station or Capital Ship at least...)

Seconded, we need:

1. player owned capital ships (such as Fleet Carriers)
2. player owned outposts (squadron housing)
