News Happy Holidays! Thanks for a great 3304

It's well in to 2019 now so where are these fun activities and where is the new patch and where are the details for chapter 4 and where...... [haha]

Happy new year everyone. Looking forward to what 3305 may bring [smile]

An earful of fire ants, over how the game behaved over the holidays.

It's back to work, my dear sir.

I fear that may have gone with Sandro.

I think it was a parting shot from Sandro in retrospect. He probably knew he was moving, and thus could say the unthinkable things. Either way, Powerplay needs improvement, and that the Open Powerplay issue is not the same as general Powerplay improvements.

I sympathise, but I wonder if Frontier think there is a cost benefit to spending money on Powerplay at this point. It might be cut adrift rather like the macOS client was.

The Elite Dangerous team are working throughout the Christmas period to look at existing player reports and investigate as many as possible.

I was extremely surprised and impressed to receive a reply to a ticket I’d posted a few days earlier on Christmas Day! I definitely didn’t expect that!

All the the best for 3305 to everyone at Frontier! o7 🥂

FDEV should not spend money on this feature unless it’s in combination with something else, it’s a waste of money.
We all know what would make Elite great, however for some reasons they are taking their sweet time to get there.

Either way FD need to actually talk to the Powerplay communities about that, since there are a multitude of them that fight it each week. The worst possible thing FD could do is just repeat the same feedback cycle and not act on it.

If FD say times up on that feature, fair enough.

If FD actually sit down and propose a redesign, great! Sandro did just that several times.

What FD need to understand is leaving features in limbo looks bad. CQC is agonisingly close to being really fun, and Powerplay (a major feature- 1.3 in its entirety) was launched and either forgotten or overlooked. FDs update model did not really help either, rather than incrementally update each part with future updates they have one monolithic update after another, and then return to features to do another monolithic update.

Another thing FD need to understand is that static content is just that- static. Once its seen its expended (for example the exploration discoveries). The BGS and PP generate emergent content that adds value once its established and for free.

For the PP proposal FD need to change about six formulas, and change three menu options. It does not require any flash assets, new ships or anything. If FD have any grasp of PP mechanics that could be done in a week.

I'm hoping the comms tab is going to be added to the list of fixes? Squadron chat disappearing randomly and the "not subscribed to this chat" message is getting old.

Not to derail the thread, but Sandro is really gone? I assumed as much given his absence from the livestreams and forums, but never saw any posts about it, despite several searches. Seemed like he (or a community manager) would've posted something - he was kinda a noteworthy part of the "culture" (and pretty entertaining).

I totally agree with this statement. The same goes for the guardian sites: interesting to explore the first time, the second time, the third time... after that you end up hating them

He may have joined Michael Brookes ?

:)

Can we please get some information about what's planned for 2019?

They've kept it under their hat for this long so it's unlikely they're going to answer any questions until they're good and ready.

We may not like it, but going this long without even dropping hints (at least outside the game) requires discipline that has to be deliberate.

I think when you look at Beyond in it's entirety FD have done some excellent work despite what some will try to convince you of, as for 2019 and beyond (sorry) when we have atmospheric worlds i'd like to have some awesome weather patterns and environments including snowflakes [big grin]

They should give us some information. Keeping people in the dark is not good. We'll keep asking until we get an official answer.
