Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

What am I up to now?

Well, I think I'm making some progress on understanding the new stuff, I've got the King of Rome kitted out, serviced (but paintwork still untouched, it's tradition now), ready to go on its third major trip, and a 99.999999999% unexplored galaxy awaits. The excitement and tension of standing on the edge of the abyss, arms out, ready to leap.

Slight refit, needs another test flight.

Yeah, interesting strategy with the tiny fuel tank.

I'd be calling fuel rats four times a week....

The fuel tank adds that element of danger that all explorers crave. Ish.
But it's a rebuild of the speed taxi, might change it after more testing.

I really enjoyed the trip, I just worry I'll miss something in the bubble!

That's plain nuts.
Impressive....but I doubt I'll ever get anywhere close and would likely go slightly mad if I made the attempt.

*takes hat off to 1 hour 55 mins*

I've had a fair amount of experience with the Buckyball crew, having joined a few races and lost terribly. The top guys can reallllly fly, like...superhuman stuff. I've seen it myself, and it amazes me what they can do!

That said, I think trying to do any of the Buckyball races will improve your own flying a lot. I know it has mine (even though I'm still at the bottom of the list, I'm better than I was! lol).

So don't just pass by those illuminating posts by Alec, etc. Join up! You'll have fun, at the very least.

Congrats Tyres, 100 pages!

I know! Never thought this thread would last so long... mind you, I've learnt so much from it so thanks to you, one and all.

Dear FD,

As this post has 100 pages, can I have a free Cutter, please? And a space station named after me. Oh, and some Guardian FSD boosters and a stonking great pile of cash. Insta triple elite too. And max amount of all mats. Cheers.

What do you mean, "no"?

:D :D :D

I agree with Codger, having a go at a Buckyball or two can really help your piloting skills, the one or two a year I have done have helped mine a lot that said I have studied training videos that some of them have done and can still barely see how they do some of the stuff. But it is great fun and if you can't be the best you can always try and pick up an honourable mention for something such as most inappropriate ship or most spectacular crash though IIRC that one is usually grabbed by one of the regulars.

And congratulations on your century Tyres.

So, after some fiddling and engineering, I added nearly 10lys to my jump range. You see, it never entered my head to fit a smaller module to a slot - what I mean is, I had a 7D PP. I now have a 5D PP, overcharged and stripped down. I did the same with thrusters and PD. So, my Krait Phantom is now my exploration ship of choice - max range 57 point something lys. And a new paint job and decals:

Anybody else thinks that Phantom is probably the closest thing to Millenium Falcon we're going to get?
I mean, it's flat, kind of round-ish, the cockpit placement is similar to the unmodded YT freighter, there's the thruster "bar",... :)
