The new mining features are an extremely welcome change to what has traditionally been an experience only the most patient of us can tolerate.

The drastically improved income from mining doesn't hurt anything either :D

am i really the only one who do not WANT to become an over night billionaire and be elite in trading in 1 mining session.

i want to do some mining, and obviously one thing which makes it fun is trying to max your per hr earnings however i feel i cant use the new tools (outside of beta) as it will just ruin the game for me.... so i find myself just not bothering.

at the very least i wish FD would just decouple the money earned from mining from the elite trade. (just like i wish they would not put ram tah earnings in the exploration elite).

note not judging all those elite billionaire miners, if this has made the game fun for you then i am happy for you. but despite mechanically some nice changes in the 3.3 update i think i am going to have to take a break from the game and hope it is rebalanced some how over the next few months. (because the flip side is, doing 50k data delivery missions also feels a bit pointless for me now as well when the people i game with are all earning 100 million for every 1 million i earn.

edit... maybe i will do some engineering, that way i can still play and not worry about money :)

Not all of us are doing it solely for the cash.
I really enjoy the gameplay mechanics behind it.

To be honest, I thought the trade values in the 200K range were more than enough. Then the new BGS got a hold of values, and things went dog nuts!
But it's not like these gold-rushes are anything new in ED.

Indeed like I said mechanically I am a fan of mining I just don't want toake money totally irrelevant and be trade elite in 1 night just by doing it

Here's the trick boss:

Outfit with all the new tech, head out into your favorite ring, and mine away until your hold is full.

Then, jettison 90% of your cargo directly into MY cargo hold, and sell the other 10% to your station of choice.

That way, you can experience and enjoy everything the game has to offer without becoming excessively burdened by financial freedom.

In all seriousness, Elite will never, ever be financially balanced for every player. Some gold rushes will, by their very nature, continue to be lucrative regardless of the incoming nerfs. Some CMDR's will only fly the Cobra and can't earn as much, as fast, as other players in bigger boats. Matter of fact, I became "wealthy" back when Obsidian Orbital was attacked by selling medical supplies, over a year ago. Since that time, my day-to-day gameplay hasn't changed except for the fact that I no longer have to only shop at Li-Yong Rui systems anymore, and I can actually afford to rebuy ships if I'm flying stupid or hit by greifers.

My stance in Elite has always been to do what I find enjoyable, and if I earn credits, great. I've been a miner since the earliest days of full release, and will continue to be for a long time, regardless of how much I make doing it.

Refusing to play a game you enjoy because you're worried about making a decent profit seems ludicrous and unnecessary to me. You can always, ALWAYS find ways to spend the excess credits you earn. Being wealthy in-game doesn't change anything other than not having to worry about spending as much. Mining will still be fun to those that enjoy it, having a billion credits in the bank doesn't suddenly turn every rock I'm shooting lazers at into a frowny kitten, the mechanics don't change at all. You don't have to mine Opals, you can seriously go mining for gold if you're doing it for lore reasons or whatever, without consequence.

I actually enjoy the game more now, because I can play in open and not worry about having to go back to the void of PG or Solo modes simply to participate in a CG. I realized not all pirates are bad, I've actually had some decent conversations with some guys out there just trying to make a living(off my precious cargo, of course). Being financially flexible has taken a lot of the stress of flying in open out of the game for me, and made the entire experience much more enjoyable.

I'm heading out on DW2 in a week, and intend to have a lot of fun doing so. Play the game in the most fun way you can, if you're worried about too much(or too few) credits, you're playing the wrong game, imho.

I've just reached Trade Elite the old-fashioned way (commodities trading). And I already had a billion in the bank. So when I finally get around to trying out the new mining toys, I needn't worry about getting too rich too fast!

You say wrong I say different priorities. Maybe I am a massachist (SP?) But I enjoy the saving up for stuff and the struggle for money.

I'm with Mad Mike here. While I really enjoy the new mining tools, I think the current gold rush with Void Opals is a little excessive. The "galaxy average" of 300-500k might be reasonable but 1.6m per ton is a way too much. I'm still going to keep mining them of course, but it definitely feels like I'm cheating the system somehow.

It doesn't bother me either way but I am amazed about how little naysaying there has been about it. I mean it's not that long ago that passenger missions had their maximum payout capped in the crudest way imaginable yet here we are with a way that players can rake in huge amounts of credits even flying something as cheap and basic as an Asp or Cobra and it sees to be getting a free pass as far as the moan brigade are concerned.

Nope.. i personally feel that the earnings are way to high.
Ive seen people cash in over a billion credits in a single sell off..

Gold rush...... nothing special about them.... they are quotidian now and are easy to find using INARA.

But ED has become progressively easier and easier as the years go by....blegh..

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
The void opal rush could use a nerf, yes. I *love* core mining, don't get me wrong. The payouts are just a bit insane at the moment. It is wrapped up in the BGS issues so I'm not sure what FD will be prioritizing first, but I'd be surprised if they were of the opinion that this is where they want core mining profitability to be.
