Extra fire button please...

I know I've asked this before, as have some others but could I please again request a third fire button? I figure we have 3 damage type weapons (thermal, kinetic and explosive) it would be nice to be able to fire my lasers, multicannons and missiles all in the same fire group, without having to keep cycling though. Quality of life stuff here.

Maybe I’m missing something but... put them all in one fire group? You know you can do that, right?

That's already been suggested and discussed hundreds of times here.

The short version: almost all players would love this. But FD does not want it. Their reasoning is that the current two-group system works on all the input methods of the game, while a system with more than two triggers would not be feasible on all controllers the game supports. To avoid giving one control method a distinctive advantage over other methods, they won't allow additional fire groups.

The point is, most forms of Kinetic really need to have the shield down to be effective and missiles need to have their own fire button. What I do is have 2 groups, the first has Kinetic and Lasers on separate buttons, the second has all weapons but the missiles on one button and missiles on the second. Which doesn't work well with rails for example, 3 buttons would be ideal. While I understand the need to standardize to keep the systems the same and not introduce bugs and issues into the game... I'm also so tired of my PC being restricted by the limitations of consoles.

To avoid giving one control method a distinctive advantage over other methods, they won't allow additional fire groups.

Which means nothing since there isn't any cross play between consoles and PC. Many games have extra things designed to take advantage of the PC's wider abilities. Add in cross play and I'll live with the limitations.

Cross play is irrelevant.
On a PC, a third fire button would give an advantage to kb/m and Hotas users over controllers. Yes, some PC users use a controller.
On PS4 or Xbox, Hotas would have an advantage over controller.
So basically, if you can't afford a Hotas, aren't comfortable using one, don't have space... too bad, live with your disadvantage?

I'm well aware of the usage of console controllers and Rift controllers as my newbie friend insists on using an X box controller even though he struggles with it and it limits his game play. If you want to hobble yourself, go ahead, be my guest, just don't look for me pity.

Maybe you're not aware that a HOTAS is available for consoles? Do they segregate HOTAS consoles from standard controllers? No? Wow, how OP is that?!!!

As far as cost, the T-Flight HOTAS X costs about the same or less than many of the console controllers (yes, there are cheap ones too...) so it doesn't wash.

I've been on the short end of the money stick and had to scrimp and save just to get a decent mouse and other things just to be reasonably competitive in FPS shooters and I never considered once that someone else who has a better rig than mine to be anyone's problem but my own. I'd sneak around the corner and be dead before I ever saw the player who was doing the same from the other direction and only knew why I died because of the kill cam. Did I demand he be banned for having a better rig? No, I dealt with, got creative where I could and bided my time until I could upgrade.

When I bought the Rift I had a GTX 970, I needed to upgrade my system but a VR setup and a new GPU was simply out of the question and I had to wait another year to upgrade my GPU. Whose problem was that? Mine.

You have choices and funds can be limited and other priorities may take precedence. Should I give up my I7 processor or 27 inch screen just because somebody is running an ancient Core 2 Duo on a laptop with a 13 inch screen? Should the guy who uses a 4K screen or 3 of not be allowed to use them in any resolution greater than 1366 x 768 because it would be better than the poor schmuck on laptop? Or should I or others refrain from using a Rift or other head/eye tracking in PvP combat because head tracking is obviously a big improvement?

As far as space? Really, the HOTAS isn't that big and if you want use it on your lap plenty of commanders have come up with simple and creative solutions to do just that you need only to look around this forum for examples of what others have done.

Sorry, I don't see the need to hobble me because of you.

Ya, that's the point, add a fire button, and Hotas has an advantage.

Game consoles come with a controller. Hotas is extra.

You're not hobbled, you're specifically asking for an advantage over others - you're demanding they be hobbled just to make you happy.

And I've bought a PC that doesn't come with a keyboard or mouse, so is me buying one giving me the advantage? Is buying an Xbox Elite controller or Vantage PS4 controller an advantage with their extra control buttons and functions over other console players? To use your argument, they shouldn't be allowed to use these because they have extra buttons. The Vantage controller says it's PS4 approved, how did that happen? I thought all consoles were the same? What is this, pay to win?

You're not hobbled, you're specifically asking for an advantage over others - you're demanding they be hobbled just to make you happy.

That's just plain ridiculousness, it's only an advantage if I PvP and use 3 fire buttons and properly outfit my ship and know how to fight and make good choices when I engineer my ship. So no, I'm not asking for an advantage.

I run an Orbweaver and other use macros with their keyboards, should we be banned or prevented from using these? I can tell you this, many PvP players use an Orbweaver and similar to run macro's to gain an advantage on other players, just ask Rinzler070707. As far as that goes, I know many PvP players who claim using a mouse is superior to a HOTAS... Should we now ban mice?!!!

Your argument is meaningless because being on a PC and having options is, has been and will always be about customization and doing my way... You know, choices mean both good and bad. You make them, you live with them, it's not up to me to live with your bad choices or limitations. Elite doesn't have a color blind mode, how is that fair if you're red-green color blind?

If you want gameplay and options limited then go buy a console and stop making ridicules claims about supposed superiority because of one button or next thing you'll want to do is remove all engineering for PvP because it would be unfair or maybe banning someone because they pirate a poor sidey with their over-engineered battle boat.

It's ridicules as banning the guy who shows up at bike race with an $11,000 dollar carbon fiber bike or the guy who shows up at the local bowling ally with a custom fitted ball, or the guy who shows up at a pool hall with a customer cue, or the guy who wears a pair of very expense basket ball sneakers at a pickup game at the local school grounds, ect…
