Polygon: "Distant Worlds 2: How do you keep 8,000 players safe in a PvP MMO?"

well exploration is inherently unsafe, so the answer is don't even try. People will die from encounters out there and that exactly how it should be.

Now it be interesting to see how well elite dangerous handles such large player instances in 2019, they have had a whole year to improve their network and server code.

Im guessing thats still going to be an issue , CG's with a handful of commanders can leave you hanging in witch space for a few minutes along with a plethora of other issues associated with it.

I doubt it'll be any better.

Do I understand this right that the solution is to use a private group and FDev giving players their ship and exploration data back in case they get blown up by an other player?

Interesting.

I'm not all that confident that I'll be able to even log in to the game on Sunday, let alone jump with the community.

I sense a repeat of the 2-3 days of connection errors that plagued the 3.3 launch before xmas.

I hope I'm wrong but we'll soon find out.

I mean why not? It's Fleetcom where PvP is forbidden. So anyone who attacks a player inside Fleetcom is griefing. Discouraging that by making it clear this behaviour will have no consequences for the victim is good.

The video in the OP does suggest that is not always the case :)

Do you know how long it look them to get everyone in that instance and do you know how hard it was to accomplish? Didn't think so. I love it when people who have never instance more than a wing tell you how instancing is fine....lol. The instancing is a trainwreck and while they may exceed there mass jump record, it will require a lot of time and patience from all involved. Something like that represents success against overwhelming odds.

On console, or at least PS4, there is frequently a problem even getting an entire wing to instance. I've had prearranged 1v1s in remote systems where we both had to restart. Trainwreck is the right word.
