Ship Mechanics

Good morning elite family, my name is Commander, Pride Evans, I am making this thread today to see if a few things on my mind would get read, and responded too, fact of the matter is I love this Simulator, everything speaks to me, I can't express how much I enjoy the fact that it takes 10 days to travel across a planet without my FSD.. I love how one creator on a planet is really small when you're in space but when you get closer the size of it becomes apparent
Elite is the future of space simulators watch.. and when elite spreads it wings ( Space legs, Building space stations, being able to do business with players over systems, planets, real estate, etc ) elite will have to increase its server size lol, anyways there is a few things I would love to see added to the Simulator.

1. The Ability to warm up your engines after sitting for along time in real life your car has to warm up and all the fluids have to re-lube the engine after sitting for awhile
wear and tear on engine parts, lights . in real life parts have a lifespan, and get wear and tear., I would like to see this in game where you have to take responsibly for your ship completely. where you have to buy new lights for your ship when they go out, or buy a new Function shift bar lol, for your engines transmission, or a new FDS fuse, this would be amazing to have because it feels like you have a real responsibility over your ship.

2. being able to walk around in the ship, one thing I always fantasize about is after traveling for long distances, being able to shut down the ship, and take a breather off the -pit seat, and stretch my legs around the ship maybe move some cargo around, check the systems, check on the passengers if I have any, and just relax.

3. turning off the ship.. being able to shut down the entire ship like a car, or having keys for my ship.

4. actually being able to mine a planet RV's that specialize in planet mining and resource extraction. making landing on planets very adventurous

these are a few things I would like to see in the simulator, this would increase the immersion of the game significantly .

5. also when you run out of air, why dose the ship blow up lol.. on some planets, ( Land-able ones ) there is oxygen, why not allow that to come into the ship if life support goes out?

1. I can see why many people would want this, but sometimes you just want skill and strategy to play a part and nothing else. I don't want something randomly failing while I'm about to finish off that fool that interdicted me. ;) I'd be ok with this being optional, though.

2. You can already do this in VR, but I agree it should be implemented even if nowhere else (space legs can take a running jump as far as I'm concerned).

3. Not sure why but ok, no complaint. :)

4. A mining rig that requires a double size SRV bay to accommodate and drills into geological sites for random spawns of materials is a great idea. Not sure how adventurous it should be though, since currently all you have to do is shoot a bunch of crystals. It needs to find a good balance between being fun and efficient.

well my friend, think about number 1 it makes sense, the ship is being used all the time, and of-course there will be a warning light before the part is going out, kind of like a check engine light, or your comms system tells you, ( Hello commander, your FSD fuse has a life of 45% etc. or you can check the engine yourself in the status ship section.

Nah, I think you've got the wrong comparison. In 2018, airports have crews responsible for maintaining the planes. It;s only reasonable to extend this and not use the comparison of a dude in his garage changing his oil because qwikfit won't even put the right stuff in. ;)

P.S. This is already in the game in a way. If you forget to ever do an advanced repair (integrity repair), your hull and modules suffer heat and battle damage far more quickly.

Sounds like the old "Hyper drive service schedule" in Frontier Elite II. It was irritating and prevented people from travelling more than a few hundred light years before the drive broke down. Although a way to repair/service the ship with AFMs might be ok.

will this affect the speed, of the ship? or performance?

I just love the sound of that I would be on planets all day!!! shooting a rock and stuff comes out just seems dull lmao

right exactly.

You can't shut down the powerplant, you can shutdown everything else.

"1. The Ability to warm up your engines after sitting for along time in real life your car has to warm up "

I always thought that the animation that you have when you are on the planet and have to spool up the engine to lift off was something that should be added to the lift off at stations and pads. You spool the engine up, press retract gear and the docking clamps release, pressing the retract gear a second time after the gear is released would retract the gear. Having the second button press would help you prevent from accidentally applying things like full thrust or boost being while in the station.

The other benefit would be that a "cancel departure" button could be placed in the spot where the Launch" button is and you could cancel the launch if you forgot limpets or your co-pilot.

That would be cool if you could shut down systems weapons, internals, ect... with a couple of master switches. And also be nice when you engage silent running. Instead of flicking off each module, you can kill weapons with one button, utilities with a second, optional internals with another. Even better, have a power groups screen where you can assign modules to a few buttons.
