Buggiest update ever

Yeah let's turn literally everything into a separate minigame

Reporting a bug: you have to chase a little bug around with a completely new and separate set of keybinds that aren't related to any other keybinds, then click on the bug three times, to open up a bug report window

Launching the game: the "launch game" button remains greyed out until you have "tuned" your mouse cursor in to the right frequency because the giant computer controlling your starship literally has no capacity to do that for you automatically

Delivering cargo: you have to "pick up" and "drop off" the cargo separately, moving it from your hold to the station depot, using your SRV, 2t at a time

Repairing hull damage: you are presented with an image of your ship, you have to zoom in eleven times onto each square foot of hull and scrutinise it for breaches, then click in a few different places to fix each breach

Have you ever calibrated and aimed with a tank-mounted mortar? That's kind of a mini-game as well, just that it isn't part of a game. I like the new mini-game like functions, also because there are a lot of real life examples of processes that actually work in a similar way.

And I expect the people that operate them would like them to be automated too ;)

I served on a submarine, and you'd be surprised how much "manual labor" goes into things one might assume would be automated.

I grow tired of people complaining about "minigames". If they had it their way, ED would be a 3D equivalent to Space Invaders or Defenders - just fly and shoot discover stuff with no depth whatsoever... If you want to complain about minigames, try one of the older Mass Effect games - ME2 was minigames galore, yet it is also renown as one of the best scifi games of all times.

Wait a minute. How did we get on this topic? THIS IS A THREAD ABOUT BUGS! We should be talking about Elephant Butt Leather! :p

I'm fully in favour of things that need human input, which are interesting and difficult and build skill and exercise your mind and/or involve some kind of puzzle-solving or strategic solution, to be turned into minigames

Now explain to me again why an FTL-capable starship from the future is incapable of doing the same job as a 1990s digital radio tuner

I think discovery could be more automated, although really I'd be looking for something a little more than just automation. Something more... Advanced ;)

But we already have something so advanced it is beyond powerful, anything less advanced would, surely, be a retrograde step?

I think the comparison between the private vehicles we have access to in ED and ruggedised military equipment is not a good one even when the centuries of progress are taken into account.

I just wish FDev would fix the 20 sec freezes. Am not spending any more money in the store until they do, that's the single most annoying thing with 3.3 for me.

Everything else is minor in comparison, for me at least, and all in all I'm greatly enjoying it, particularly mining and exploration (both of which I deemed to be mindnumbingly dull before, especially if done for prolongued periods of time).

I rolled back my nvidia driver and not had a problem since. Might be worth a try.

It's my thread matey. I'll do as I please until slapped down by someone that isn't you.

"What you please" is turning the thread into another rant about the FSS? Doesn't that torpedo your own OP, or do you truly believe the FSS is a bug?

It may be your thread, but it's our forum, and I do hope the moderators stop this "invasive weed" from spreading where it doesn't belong.

I couldn't give a monkey's about the FSS beyond the fact that it's hilariously bad, both on an actual gameplay level and in terms of how it makes any sense for a galactic society.

And yeah, it was you that triggered it, so take your own advice. Or you could just go on again about your military service, like one of those Yorkshiremen who can't stop reminding you about the existence of Yorkshire.

Anyway, how many working days has it been since the buggiest patch of all time dropped? You'd think the most egregious ones would have been hot-fixed.

Depends :) Can you give an example of what you mean?

Oh, maybe the return of old & outdated (now redundant) equipment that was 'forcibly' removed to make way for the current system? I do recall, dimly, at least one post in the forum expecting it to be returned in the first patch. It is an ancient memory now, but wasn't that device given a ridiculous name - something like 'Advanced Discovery Scanner' , an odd name for something so basically simple, but I may misremember its actual title :)

Well, it's really just a matter of opinion. You're entitled to yours. And for a limited time, a bonus! You're entitled to mine.

IMO Yorkshire is a myth. Perhaps a legend, depending on your view.

I liked it, I used it a lot & I think a lot of people still would want to equip one if it were still available, and exploration would be no worse off if it has been retained.

Much like the introduction of Engineers and engineered NPCs in 2.1 it was a contentious, arguably bold move on FDevs part. However I saw a benefit to the features introduced in 2.1 and although the NPC challenge increased nothing was removed, the original game could still be player (it was just a bit harder to kill NPCs).

As I have said earlier in this thread this release has not been the best, it seems like a bit of a rush job. No doubt the bugs will be ironed out eventually, but the design choices need to be too. It could have been much, much better than it was, and the problems have continued well into the new year now.

ETA as Old Duck highlights, a great deal has been written about one of these design choices in other threads.
