Why is this not a commodity?

I think it should be such.

OK, now we are in agreement, as to what we are discussing.

Why is it now a commodity? It has been so for centuries, in fact, some people were paid in salt; which they traded for food etc.

So it should be on the market, as it will always be required.

Exactly. But at the moment it doesn't exist in ED. I just checked on Inara.

It'll be like iron, the ninth most abundant element in the universe. You can have your sodium chloride, but only if you invest hours of grinding away at minigames to get very tiny quantities of it, and you'll never be able to buy or sell it for absolutely no rational reason at all.

There so much NaCl in these forums you couldn’t give it away. Pirates would take limpets first.
But Cheese... a good Sirius Sharp Chedder, Achenar Camembert, Ailoth Blue, or Maia Romano, and now you’re talking. Just steer clear of the Formorians Frumunda.

You sure it's NaCl and not NaCN or NaOH?
Interestingly sodium hydroxide is a by-product of extracting chlorine from brine (salt solution). and chlorine which is used for loads of things isn't a commodity in ED either... so there. Yeah... hmmm.

I know. Iron bothers me too. Iron should come in two forms: Ore, for synth/eng, and refined for commodities.

Vice versa, surely.

It's almost like engineering mats are a bolted-on addition tailor-made for a specific game loop by a bunch of different designers. Mysterious.

Hmm. Either way, wouldn't really bother me. I just want to see iron on the market. The name doesn't bother me.
