Hardware & Technical Am I the only one unimpressed with Oculus DK2?

I am extremely excited for real, accessible VR technology since I was a little kid.

However, I do NOT want compromises. Screen door effect, low resolution etc..is the main reason I am waiting for CV1. It's difficult, I admit...but I simply won't and can't blow, say €350 on a set and then accept flaws like low resolution and SDE. I want the real thing that is as good as it gets. Luckey himself said that CV1 will be way, way better than DK2 and he literally did NOT recommend to get the DK2 "except if you're a developer".

If you really want no compromises, then CV1 may not be what you are looking for. While greatly improved, it will still have a visible SDE. There is no way at this time that the CV1 will have a 4K display (really the minimum resolution where the SDE *might* be completely removed).

I don't see full screen clarity until at least the second or even third public versions of the Rift. ;)

Moving to Hardware. :)

Where's that then T.j is it close to Norwich? ;)

VR tech as a whole has tended to be a whole lot of promise and rather short on the delivery front. It will be interesting to see how well the Oculus fairs when it finally releases. It certainly looks promising but there's still a long way to go.

I think the idea that it's a development kit so nobody should have negative opinions on it is nonsensical.

Anyone complaining about the resolution is an idiot, because this is a limitation of the available screens and this information was searchable on the internet for all to read. Getting all whiny about it on the internet doesn't change the fact Oculus are waiting for screen technology to catch up..

Also, Oculus haven't sold any consumer units, so no consumers have been ripped off. Take a punt on one if you like and sell it at a profit if it doesn't meet your exacting standards.

If you've never tried the DK2 and are calling it rubbish, then you're a super cretin with a cherry on top.

Why are these idiots complaining about it then?

Nor do I, but even the DK2 is better than the completely false reality of monitors and the feeling of looking at a miniature world through a window. If you're prepared to put up with the 2D, letter box view, then I say you are making many more compromises than DK2 users.
