Newcomer / Intro Eagle - Weapon Load out

Hooking up an Eagle to kill pirates and such.

Have 1G x2 Burst lasers on gimbals

1x 1G Multi-cannon on gimbal

I would like to keep gimballed weapons but up the power....

any tips for a noob?

Honestly, if you want to up your firepower, you should start working on your fixed weapons skills.
Fixed weapons do a lot more damage. Gimbals are a "death by thousand cuts" type of deal - they are more consistent on hitting the target. Once you learn to aim fixed weapons to mitigate that disadvantage, you'll never go back.

If you want to stay with gimbals for now, bursts and MCs are about the best you're gonna get. (Beams are too hot for an Eagle)
If you have time, you can invest a couple of days of "work" down in the Imperial space to earn your wings with their navy and the Imperial Eagle variant, which has a Class 2 hardpoint up top. Having a C2 multicannon instead of C1 is a great upgrade.

If you decide to go fixed, whole new world of options unfolds. Things like rail guns, plasma accelerators and Frag cannons are on a whole new level of power and even a small ship like Eagle can cause a lot of trouble with them. :)

Yeah I play with gimbals locked in Star Citizen so I will probably go that route.

I would like to run all kinetic weapons but it seems thermal is better at eliminating the shields .

The Eagle is doing well for what it is. Im able to kill NPCs worth 250K bounties with it

Yeah, Eagle is a really fun ship to throw around. :)

As for the shields, yes, energy weapons are much more efficient against them. Unless you dive into engineering. There are mods you can do to cannons that make them great against both hull and the shields. But I guess you're not in a hurry.

Here's my Eagle, MSS Aquila. Fun fun ship to fly. I've scored a few kills in her.

The Imperial Eagle is a nice ship but it doesn't require you to do any navy work to own one nowadays.

Ill have to study your build.

Its a fine line dealing with goodies and keeping the mass down and power capable.

I haven't even dove in power management yet.

Integrity 630 seems very high, Ill have to log on and check mine but I dont think it is anywhere near that

You might like to give frag guns a try. They are extremely destructive and eat little power. As always, there is a downside, due to their large spread you need to get very close to your opponent or they won't be effective. The Eagle should be well capable of the required flying style. Once you get into engineering, there is a mod called "incendiary rounds" which makes them highly effective against shields.

I like them and use them on all my ships because they are the icon of classic dogfighting :)

Well it seems that doing kill missions will get you some NPC enemies.

and hooked up ships gets expensive when the NPC you are hunting blows you up when you are at the scan beacon

I made sure I had enough insurance but I had lost all my hard points when I re spawned.

is this a bug?

No. It's an insurance company bureaucracy.
You forgot to tick some boxes when they asked you what do you want to rebuy. :)

a few tips i can give:

Engineers you should unlock ASAP are all 5 of the initial engineers.
Farseer gives you access to better jumprange, powerplant and thrusters
Martuuk gives you early access to shield mods
dweller gives you laser and distributor mods
TodMQuinn gives you multicannon mods, but also rails, frags and cannon mods
LizRyder gives you explosives and grade1 hull mods

they allow you to apply at least lvl1 mods to almost all your core modules and weapons, fast and cheap.

Liz is a gem for eagle fighting - gives you access to high-capacity mod for dumbfire missiles - which are great for bringing down NPCs
and the hull mods are easier to access for those who are not into mining

on small ships, i found burst lasers good against shields.
enforcers are a good choice against hulls too, but are powerplay-locked.

Your current loadout is actually not bad... burst lasers offer the best DPE (damage per energy) of all lasers, while a multicannon is useful vs. NPC hulls.

I would replace the gimballed bursts with fixed ones, engineer them with efficient mod and leave the multi-cannon gimballed and overcharge it. If you use both fixed you won't be able to fire both at the same target since you need to lead the MCs shots.

An overcharged frag cannon is a good alternative for the MC.

Quite spot on. I'd advise the same. The lasers can be burst or pulse, fixed or gimbaled, based on the pilots preferences. Fixed burst might be the best choice, but only in the hands of an already somewhat proficient pilot. Gimbals seem a bit "lazier", but you also have to note that they allow you to keep your guns on the target during some maneuvers, where fixed would not be on the target any more.

Time on target can beat top damage there, depending on the pilot.

For the multi-cannon on top: gimbaled for sure. Unless you run gimbaled lasers, then you can theoretically go for a fixed multi-cannon. That one's a good deal harder to use, though, so i don't generally advise it. (But on the other hand: provided that you use them, fixed multi-cannons can teach you some aiming. :)

Formerly i'd actually have advised to use a gimbaled cannon instead and go for a reactor kill. But as NPCs by now learned power settings, this is not as effective any more as it once was.

I think you should go with two gimbal weapons and one fixed - either a cannon or a railgun. Then you have the obvious benefit of gimbals, plus a bit of punch when you can line things up nicely.

having access to Tod Mc Quinn opens up lots of possibilities with the kinetic weapons

its never wrong having the corrosive ammo mod on the multicannon or frags - its a straight damage multiplier debuff on the target.

rails modded with either plasma-slug, penetrator round or feedback cascade are a kind of must have for rails. -> would suggest feedback cascade to counter NPCs using SCBs

cannons are nice - but the most promising mod was nerfed into oblivion for specialist use only. now i don't know which one is best these days
one thing i know - small cannons fixed. the gimbal version got to much of an damage reduction to be worth it.

I spent like 6 months selectively flying it when I first got the game, great ship, but it lacks the hitting power and boost ability of the Viper 3/4.

Run a gimbal beam on the top hardpoint, two fixed cannons on the lower (The lower hardpoints likely wont fire when needed on a gimbal fixed is a little harder but higher DPS and more reliable in time when you improve your skill).

When it comes to engineering, (Can be done with the starter engineers) You want to long range the beam to G2, and put the Thermal Vent effect on (Can effectively run yourself down to zero heat for most of most fights effectively cancelling missle spam and generally making tracking weapons less efficient), the cannons want Overcharge/Oversized if in a PvE environment, or Thermal Cascade if in a PvP one.

Gl, its a beast if flown right, a well flown group can even give the largest of ships serious trouble if they hang around.

Wasn't there a CG that gave new commanders a free Imp Eagle?

There was one for a skin for the Eagle MkII back in Christmas 3302(2016) IIRC. The year after that there was one that gave access to the 3 Federal bricks for a short period without the rank requirement being met.
