System Security?

Has the system security forces been nerfed? Previously when you were interdicted the local security would jump in and help out but I haven't seen that happen lately and what is it with all of the 'Lawless' people at starports?

I sense there was a major political upheaval in whatever system you like to hang out in. Those two little facts are hallmarks of Anarchy systems.

For those lawless, either this starport/the whole system is controlled by an anarchy faction, or there's a conflict zone near the starport. System security will come slower if the security level is lower, and they won't come if you're solely interdicted but not assaulted. You know, these stats are part of the BGS and they could be changed from time to time.

I've usually killed whoever interdicted me and have cleaned up most or all of the goodies they left behind by the time system security shows up, so I can't say I've really noticed. I've also been out on the edge of the galaxy for the past 5 weeks, so no interdictions out here at all.

The system is certainly not Anarchy, possibly medium security, but there are combat zones there so that would account for the lawless.
I'll take more notice tonight when I play.

I've noticed a "bleeding through" of combat zones into normal space since 3. (whatever) dropped because I've seen exactly the same thing as the OP: a LAWLESS ship in a system with security.

Is it possible that if an Anarchy faction owns a facility (space or planet based) then the area around that facility (the few LS bubble) loses it's security state and mirrors the state of the owner?

I'm out of the bubble right now so I can't test this hypothesis.

That is exactly how it works, each minor faction in a system extends a bubble of their own around the settlements they control, within which only their rule apply. For stations, it's 1000km.

As for the OP, hard to tell without more detail. Interdictions don't on their own cause the police to show up, what does that is committing a crime (so typically, shooting or trying to hatchbreak a clean ship)... I assume you have 'report crimes against me' on? Tell us more about these encounters and the system in question.

1. There is a bug since 3.3.01 that causes some places become lawless, as if part of a conflict zone.

2. Security response time is strongly dependent on system security level, ranging from several seconds (high security) to several minutes (low security). Since 3.0 or 3.1 the game actually displays this time whenever a crime is reported so it's easy to check.

In general, if you get attacked in a high security system you get help within a minute (it takes some time for the security forces to jump in, get closer and engage the attackers), while medium and low usually takes so long that the combat is over by the time they arrive.

Also, don't expect security ships to actually help much - they are pretty much useless against higher level NPCs, and utterly useless against player ships.
