WTB: SRV Weapons that actually hit things from cockpit view.

Pre 3.3 this particular foible of SRV piloting was a minor annoyance as the vast majority of things you wanted to shoot were larger than the size of a human head.

Now however...

Geosite harvesting is already difficult enough as the vast majority of interesting sites are at the bottom of canyons in horrible rock formations that require the mountaineering skills of a mutant sherpa goat/kangeroo without having blasters that always miss low from the cockpit view. Its not even a random miss:

Cockpit view every single time: low miss from any distance
Switch to turret: dead on from any distance

Thats a programmed in failing.

Just to be clear: I love the mountaineering. Its challenging and fun. Spending 30 minutes boost jumping to get that last Needle Crystal is addictive. However, after spending all that time and effort to get to the Crystal only for my blasters to pew ineffectively off target because of a PROGRAMMED AIM OFFSET is annoying as all get out.

Please, for the love of gravy, fix this asap.

FYI:
Anyone wishing to debate this: go visit LHS 417 4 A, visit any geosite at random (bar the 1-2 that are not too bad). I defy you not to come away swearing at the cockpit auto-miss system.

Been geo-site mining since they first came out, there are very few times when you can't hit the target from cockpit, and that's usually because they are bugged by being buried to deep in the formation. What you have to understand is that the cockpit gun has a wander range due to it having a wider auto target ability than the turret, the turret is a precision weapon and doesn't wander, so the cockpit weapon is for use against mobile enemies and the turret against stationary targets, they are best used appropriately.

But if you want to use the cockpit gun, back way five to ten meters, I have hit geo targets from much further away and even while approaching, fire a couple of rounds and watch the target reticule, it will wander in a circular manner around the target, as it passed over the target fire a couple of rounds and that's usually it. When using weapons you have to take into consideration the peculiarities of the weapon you are using and its strengths and weaknesses, this applies as much in ED as it does in real life.

I've geosurveyed 3 entire systems (over 300 geo-locations) in the last two weeks. I've also been out to the Guardian Sites and shot a bunch of skimmers etc. In all cases the Cockpit Auto-Targeter aims LOW. Sentinels, Cargo, Guardian Sentinels, Rocks you name it. Yes there is a Target wander on the cockpit aim that doesnt happen on the turret. It aims low, then wanders 3-5deg left and right and 1deg up and down. Which is useless when the target is the very bottom of the hit box which is covered by rock.. That isn't "a wider targeting ability" Thats a pre-programmed aim offset specifically to aim low on the target hit box.

As I stated above, it wasn't an issue before 3.3 because the target sizes were larger. Its still not an issue against most targets. When geo mining (a major addition to the last patch and something that was supposed to make mat collecting a little easier and more realistic) its bloody horrible.

Keep the aim wander, you will get a few misses. Thats fine and dandy and takes into account the difference between cockpit slight auto target and turret accurate fire. Just please adjust the aim point to the center of the hit box not the bottom.

+1
I was at a guardian site yesterday and the cockpit aim was physically incapable of hitting the sentinels because it was aiming low.

There are occasions when parked on the top of a Staleg-(whichever points up), where you cannot back up 5-10m. That takes you off the edge of a 1km cliff that you've just spent 30 mins climbing.

As for real life comparisons? If I had a gun that constantly aimed low, I'd try and adjust it. In this case I can't. So I'd go BUY ANOTHER WEAPON, which I can't cos there is only one srv. So failing those two options? Go back to the manufacturer and ask whats going on, given my empirical experience and suggestions, and can they fix it please?
