Advanced Discovery Scanner

Hi Cmdr's,

It's been awhile since I've played. Is the ADS still a thing ? Can't seem to find one.

Thanks and Fly Dangerous

Thanks,

Module cannot be used in this cockpit mode

Ahh Derr

Now what.

Guess I have to go back to flight school

The Advanced Discovery Scanner has Evolved into the Full Spectrum Scanner. It is a more powerful device, with some differences in usage.
While you can still "honk", as previous, this now only reveals and discovers the system's primary star, as well as establishes the orbital plane, and provides a count of bodies in the system.

The Full Spectrum Scanner is a new, first-person view of the system, and allows you to locate and gather data on individual system bodies. This data is the equivalent of a Detailed Surface Scan, revealing the planet's composition and orbital data. It also listed the planet on the system map, as well as provides a count of certain surface Points of Interest (Geological and Biological).

Flying close to a planet now, with a Detailed Surface Scanner allows the use of planetary probes to map the surface and reveal certain Points of Interest as navigation points.

Bonuses are given for First Discovered and First Mapped.

There are also two cockpit modes now - Combat and Analysis.

Combat mode is for firing weapons.
Analysis is used for employing sensors, scanners, and non-combat modules, like Collection and Repair limpets.

I just started the game for the first time since July... Dear Lord, exploration is even more tedious now.

Key binding section in game options is ridiculous.

I feel like I want to uninstall the game, honestly lol

It's dead easy, look for the exclamation marks which show where the changes were made. There are a couple videos which take you through the changes if you're stuck.

Otherwise, uninstall and can I have your stuff? [big grin]

We have all been there, in Beta or after it became live.

I would like to differentiate:
Setting the keybinds is a bit tedious for custom profiles. Exploration itself takes some getting used too but is then quick and not so tedious at all.

Go uninstall then. Or do the same you did when you first started playing and saw the keybinding section.
And actually exploration is much less tedious now because you don't have to fly anywhere now and can identify surface sites like geysers and als signal sources with the scanner and directly go there without relying on random spawns or eyeballing planets.
I suggest you look at the whole system before complaining.

The keybinds are annoying, but remember all but two or something are simply dual mode binds so you can reuse keys which are already used in the normal mode.

They should have auto populated most of it with existing binds to make it less daunting, eg FSS movement should just inherit up/down and strafe controls. May not be ideal mapping but at least people don't feel so overwhelmed by all the blank binds and can remap when a bit more comfortable with what the new features do.

So a space game is less tedious because you don't have to fly anywhere and you now have an infinite i-win button to find absolutely everything. I don't know why we don't just send out probes from the bubble to do it all for us.

Nothing like a good strawman to further an argument.

Old system: honk to reveal the entire system (payment tier 1), hyperspace out if nothing interests you, fly to planets individually if they are interesting (payment tier 2).

New system: honk to reveal the number of planets in a system, but not their locations (payment tier 1). Then, look around the system from the position of the star finding exactly where the planets are, being aware that ELWs, WWs and AWs are highlighted in the spectrum analysis (payment tier 2). If you are then inclined to visit any planets, you can get payment tier 3 for mapping them. It's also worth noting that the FSS stage now indicates if any planets have points of interest worth visiting, so no more picking moons at random and getting thoroughly depressed from driving around aimlessly.

Now it's like this: You scan, you see there's signals on a planet, you fly there, you probe the planet, you see the sites, you target the site, you go to the site.
Yeah, that kinda sounds better than flying there on a good guess and try to find anything by eyeballing an entire planet.

Discovering stuff on planets is not an i-win thing, it's what space exploration is about. You use your ship's scanner to find signals and anomalies and then investigate. I mean, sure, dislike it. As long as you are in the bubble or in a discovered system you can keep doing it like before. Just don't fit a surface scanner and discover the planets old school style.

Same here (meaning the first sentence, not the others!), hadn't played for at least ten months before I fired it up again a week or so ago. I also haven't sorted out my bindings for scanning or tried more than a cursory effort to figure out the new system. However, it just gives me something to learn and sort out when I've run out of other things to do. I'm quite sidetracked by mining at the moment, though, so that might take a while. :)

Before I only had to scan once to see all planets and I was flying only to a planet that I was finding interesting i.e. ELW, Water World.. now you have to scan all to find things that may interest you.
I suppose it may seem more interesting to people, then I've never really had much patience with exploration :p

Nope. How about you learn a little about the FSS then get back to us. You can spot your precious ELW or WW just as fast using the frequency bar.

You're wrong. The Band of the FSS will tell you immedantively if theres any planets of interrest. If anything its even easier now because you dont have to open the system map and look at the planet texture and go "huh this kinda looks like a ELW".

Could you please stop using logic thank you very much? Emotion is what its all about...
