Whoever designed HD 63154 (Guardian Ruins) is a sadist

Because I can circumvent bad design in most cases by artificially stunting progression. Doing that for guardian sites is just pure masochism because you're doing the exact same thing at every site.

Man it's okay criticize a game you like. Defending guardian unlocks because you like seeing the 2 or 3 different configurations is just blind loyalty.

Toxic 0.1% you make the rest of us look bad.

We have follow on chain missions, we have missions from ram tah, these are assets already in game. They could have easily been incorporated into guardian unlocks but they weren't and that suggests to me that FD isn't interested in delivering a quality product.

What we have instead is: get on google, find locations of sites, get there and shoot stuff, gather mats and relog because chances are you didn't get everything you need in one run. Then if you're still up for it, relog to get another blueprint or fly to another site.

This is next on my to do list.

Any tips gratefully received.

Clear all sentinels and find all 6 power pylons before powering them up.
That way you can calmly drive around and power up all pylons without worrying about sentinels while the timer is ticking.

OP you may have to park your ship closer to the ruins site for the pd to work. It's fun to see it in action vs. the sentinel missiles.

yes, the "grind" of the guardian ruins isn't nearly as horrible and overblown as the past naysaying seemingly made it out to be on the forum.
More like old school type of 3D & roving shooting mini-game where you can learn to get better and faster making "better time" each "round".

If only we could trade these... still have some 200 or so in my data bin.
I maxed mine out the first time I went out there, when this stuff was new. Topped off a number of things a couple months ago because I’d finally started running low.

Always good times out there.

You seem to be looking at this from a very one sided perspective. For example you assert that chain missions and the Ram Tah missions could have been incorporated into the unlocks.

It's the other way round. The unlocks are incorporated (as a by-product) into the Ram Tah missions. And the more someone does those missions for themselves without using google, etc. the more of the unlocks they will do as part of the missions.

Even if you just go and do a bit of investigation and exploration of a few sites, you'll pick up plenty of stuff for the unlocks.

Why focus purely on the 'I've heard there's a module so I'll google how to get it with minimum effort' aspect as though that's the be all and end all of the situation and the game should be designed purely around it?

I'm not saying that that side of things shouldn't be taken into account, but it's certainly far from being the only side of things which FD should be taking into consideration.

My suggestion to the OP is reasonably simple - if you can wing up with a friend or 2 to do the Module/ship/weapons missions it will make it much easier and way more fun than 'going it alone' you can create your own PG for the event if you wish.

So after reading Stigbob repeatedly saying the FSD upgrade wasn't a grind, and enjoying the new exploration stuff (still finding stuff that's been in the game for ages), I put a point defense on my Cobra (I like small ships) and heat sink (just in case), but thanks to reading comprehension issues I didn't ensure it was on the top of the ship (D'oh!) and set off.

Arrived in darkness, hadn't read a how to do it, I managed to park damn close and started exploring, get the lay of the land (didn't really have an issue with navigating the SRV so can finally say to others, 'Git Gud!' - but I'm still crap at space combat). Logged off. Next morning, still in darkness (is it non rotational? gorram!), plus an update in 30 minutes, logged off.

So, last night, jumped in, hazy daylight and so atmospheric, seriously damned beautiful... Started shooting and scanning and defending... gods damn if I'm not having fun, no help from my ship with regards the sentinel missiles but I synthesized the best grade repairs and weapons, re-learnt how to drive and shoot using the mouse and throttle and got my first blueprint.

Was going to fly straight back to Home base Sirius but am now going to check out the other sites in the neighborhood, not necessarily for more Guardian upgrades (tho I will obviously), but because I enjoyed the experience.

I think the six months break I took away from the game pre 3.3 really helped the enjoyment factor and finding HGE's was a first for me (I know it sounds like they've gone in the latest patch but I'm assuming that's just a bug, easily resolved ;) ).

So yea, cheers Fdev but that place is a masochists delight!!!

It's not a grind lmao. I literally just did that within the past week. Took me maybe 15 mins or less per "run". I did it 6x just because. And while I still need some of the pattern data for some of the other modules, I got 6 module blueprints, and it wasn't a grind. Not even close.

I sometimes wonder if this is the first game people have ever played before. Games of yesteryear were many magnitudes more "grindy". Especially anything considered MMO (Ultima online, ever quest, vanilla wow etc).

People just like moaning, add long term ragequitters/serial whingers into the mix and you have people who don't play anymore or have never played telling each other what a grind everything is irrespective of never having actually done it. They can't fact check it so they believe each other and forum users sometimes take them seriously, that's where myths like the AX weps being behind a grind wall come from.

I'm soooooo happy!

Well, after having read this thread I decided this weekend it's finally time to get the FSD Guardian booster.

Had it postponed for months. But always enviously looking to the ones who already had one.

I read
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/438289-Walkthrough-Guardian-Module-Blueprints
and
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/437846-Simple-Guide-for-Unlocking-all-of-the-Guardian-Tech
and Stigbob's nice short summary and up I went.

In my good old Asp Explorer. 20 jumps from my home, almost 50 lys jump range.
Scanned all systems in between.

Went down at SYNUEFE NL-N C23-4 B3 to the guardian structure, flew around and was looking at the scenery. Trying to get an idea of the site layout.

FDev - great job, planet surfaces so much more beautiful now. Night view - what an awesome quality of life improvement. Simply... GREAT!

Tried to land, but couldn't find a single spot to get my AspX down. Thought, hey, do medium ships not work???
Nooo.. after 15 minutes! I figured out I had forgotten to deploy my landing gear...
Absolute rookie mistake!

But you know what? Who cares.

It really took me all this afternoon and a part of the evening to collect all materials and until I got the idea of charging the pylons and so on.
But finally I did my pylon charging run, jettisoned my ancient relic and here it was, MY BLUE ORB OF JUMP RANGE!!!
They (the sentinels) tried to kick me down, but I defeated them, didn't let my final victory be challenged by them.

Aaah, all these nice details, didn't spend a lot of time so far outside of the bubble, always powerplay and BGS and PMF and so on.
I know I will return and have a closer look.

I did get exactly ONE blueprint. Could have repeated, but I thought - hey, that was so exciting and entertaining, why not coming back with a FSD range boosted ship???

So I left SYNUEFE NL-N C23-4, went to Ainunnicori to sell my few ancient findings, buy HN shock mounts, flew over to Yimakuapa and finally got the Guardian FSD booster!

Bought 20 in all sizes, a size 5 one I put into my AspX which that way can jump now almost 60 lys... what? Yes!

Went home and transferred all modules over to my home station.
Changed ship to my beloved Corvette which now can jump almost 31 lys! WHAT? YES! THIRTY-ONE LIGHT YEARS!!!

I mean, hey, my old combat Anaconda which brought me safe through the first 7, 8 months until I got the ranks for a Corvette just had done 26, 27 light years?

And now my combat multi-purpose jack-of-all-trades Vette jumps even farther???

I'm soooooo happy!
;)

Well done :)

THe FSD Module & SLF blueprints were the best move I'd made too, I was lucky to have company for the SLF 'prints.

Try to keep facing whatever you're attacking and the missiles rarely cause problems.

Just manually shoot the missiles down every time ... it's fun! .... it's like shooting clay pigeons! You even get a warning the missiles are in-bound....PULL! :p

SRV Practice

If you are not confident driving the SRV from the turret, go to Dav's Hope and do a few circuits while collecting mats until you are proficient.

Gotta say, I think people are short-changing themselves by only unlocking the FSD Booster.

I don't fit many other Guardian modules to my ships permanently but I do make plenty of use of them during the engineering process.
You can, for example, just buy a Guardian PP or PDist off the shelf and bung it in your ship to get it fully operational while you're engineering other components.

Also, the Guardian shield-boosters are at least as important as the FSD booster, IMO.
I've now replaced the SCBs on my 'vettes with GSBs, which means I've got unlimited time in combat, don't need to faff around disabling/enabling SCBs and I don't need a HSL taking up space in a utility slot.

I don't disagree. And I have written I plan to come back. In fact - I plan to pay the Synufue site a vist in my Vette. Maybe I need to drive a little bit longer in the SRV then.

However - even if you are right that these nice Guardian modules do not only consist of jump range - I keep saying when FDev allowed only one single upgrade/engineering of all modules, I believe I always would choose FSD jump range. I am convinced that's the single most useful ability in the game - second to none.
Imho.
