PSA: Ship Integrity

Just a reminder, don't get into a fight if your ship integrity is low. Or in other words, if you go on a long haul in SC, remember to repair your ship integrity or you'll take a lot more damage faster.

Just for the heck of it I took a 0.14 LY mission to Katzenstein Dock in 36 Ophiuchi and forgot to check my ship integrity when I landed. Turns out it was pretty low at 53%, or at least it was when I got back to the dock to get my hull repaired. I was in my shiny, new, mostly A-rated, Krait MK II, unengineered besides the grade 3 FSD range boost. I decided I'd map all the planets here, there are plenty of WW and HMC worlds but then I saw an installation and dropped in. While I was scanning some points on the station I got an alert that hostiles were in-bound. I was immediately beset by 4 NPCs and while I tried to escape I saw my shields go down and my hull went to 78%. I got away and the repairs only cost 10,924, the integrity repairs however cost 211,983.

A few things I didn't like about the scenario was that I was immediately attacked just for being present and there were significant delays between being attacked and notified that the hostiles were in-bound. The chat didn't show any messages until I started to SC, the chat messages are timestamped 1900 but the journal times are later. I wasn't even given a chance to pick a side, I shouldn't be an enemy of either side until I pick a side and/or attack a ship.

If anyone is interested here are the journal entries from the first NPC until I started to SC.

You should try doing that run in a Cutter... the integrity costs are eyewatering!

Back in the day when "passengers" were a thing I used to run my Cutter at zero% integrity for as long as I dare as it wasn't worth repairing it every trip :D

Spent 3 months participating in the repair of Obsidian Orbital in my Cutter.
After something like 3 trips the cost for repairing the ship's integrity was something like Cr300k.
Wouldn't like to speculate on how much it cost me overall. [where is it]

I flew a Python to SagA* and back pre-Horizons (27LY jump range, don't judge me). It would have been cheaper to strip the hull, self-destruct and bite the re-buy than pay to have the ship's integrity fixed. Pretty sure that would have been insurance fraud though.

Ship integrity repair costs got a balance pass a few weeks after my return. As you can probably guess, I'm not at all sore about any of this.

Not. One. Bit.
