For those who say that space legs are pointless...

For those worried about Fps pvp one could always go solo or pvt group, but that is how they pitched the game (fps, ship boarding, walking around planets, stations & ships). So I would like them to develop the game that they pitched when I backed it, as i have stated previously if you choose not to utilize that part of the game sit in your seat on your ship or in your buggy. Me I will be the one going into the Thargoid ship with my weapon drawn & ready. :)

None of us are WORRIED about FPS play, some of us have played FPS at a tournament level so we know exactly what's involved in a decent FPS, companies have gone bust just trying to produce a decent FPS, so shoe-horning a full blown FPS into what is essentially a space sim is a HUGE undertaking, probably as much an undertaking as producing Elite to start with, FDEV won't be able to do a decent job if they try and turn it into an FPS, and worst they will screw up the original game as well. Putting some limited first person features, maybe story driven into the game is probbaly the way to go, trying to turn it into a full blown FPS is a mistake.

SC was always going to be that type of game, they started out to produce that type of game, what I have seen so far so pretty poor but maybe they can pull it off with a lot more development, and if it works out well people who want a full blown sci-fi FPS can go play SC, good luck with that.

I think it will have non-combat activities too. It won't be just a shooter.

Betheda's been recycling their Elder Scrolls/Fallout titles for years. I'm not hyped for an unannounced project.

They've fixed a lot of bugs, check the patch notes. Claiming they're doing nothing is ridiculous.

I never claimed they were doing nothing :)

Bethesda has dropped the ball majorly, have you played any of their VR Titles? they literally just copied and pasted the whole game with a little bit of hand control, you will have to push buttons, you can ONLY use one hand even on two handed weapons, certainly can't grab or hold anything, graphics are not polished.... Although I still own Skyrim VR (had to mod it to increase graphics) I got rid of Fallout 4 because the prospect of aiming a sniper rifle with one hand sickened me. they don't give a toss either about it.

10:37 There you go. Look into his eyes when he says it and slump in misery. Boy I can't wait to see all the worms squirming about and crying! But but but Elite is a a a a spaceship game boo hoo. [haha]

Although their galaxy is pretty sh*t with only 100 or so systems and 100,000 people bought exploration vessels... they'll be out of content in a couple of weeks.

They've only got one system right now.

I would imagine anyone who bought this ship could be feeling a bit miffed at the moment.

My turn, got something better; Did you know that they have used 93% of the $200 million in 2017? Then, after 7 years, still a demo.
I don't wanna think too much about it coz I don't want to die of laughter.
And some people are like "but but but CIG are aiming for something bigger then everbody so it's normal.."
I'm like "looking at the best, looking at you Elite :)".

I'd love to see Space Legs TM, however I see why they're likely a lot of work for little gameplay pay off. I know that many, myself included would be happy to just be able to walk around your ship.

A decent first-person implementation is difficult to get right, and it'll not add a lot to gameplay (even though it'd arguably change/enhance the experience). Even a full implementation - walking around stations to pick up missions, et cetera - would probably get a little tired after a while, depending on how long it actually takes to get around and do any stuff. I can see a decent proportion of players doing it for a bit, before realising it's quicker and easier to just use your onboard terminals and using them instead.

And augmenting the gameplay in other areas (giving purpose to the first-person elements other than visiting things in stations) presents it's own challenges.

As for the Star Citizen comparisons...we're long passed that. Beyond sharing a genre, I think they're light years apart.

This game is about space ships. Here I can fly and shoot.
When I want run and shoot I play another game.

That ED is about space ships is a common misconception, though through no fault of the playerbase.

Braben has already said this game was never about your spaceship, it was always much more than that. It's about living in the future; experience a world we'll never get to see. The original Elite in '84 was intended to have legs, but the technology of the time prevented this.

I don't want space legs, neither atmospherics. There's enough grind and disappointment in outer space or on the airless surfaces. The only thing I want (and consider it as the most important) is the current overall game mechanics redone in the more involving way.

If the space legs or atmospheric planets will be done by the current generic principle, it will be complete garbage, as an almost all of another post-release content.

I also expect a more targeted approach at least at first. Have it as a mainly exploration and mission based mechanic and have it instanced would be the most ideal solution to begin with in my view. It can then be expanded upon in the future to include more open areas such as stationsand planetary bases.

If this is what the future looks like, I'm glad I'll never live to see it.

The OP used the video as a "could be" not a "would be."
I personally doubt Frontier will go to the same level as CIG with Star Citizen; the game will have some kind of foot content, and with that possibly some kind of FPS content. How they decide to implement that remains to be seen.

If there's nothing to do in space, why do we spend so much time flying around in it?
I just like to use a HOTAS, and push all the buttons I can. I'm a pilot, and go "FWOOSH!" in my mind every time I hit boost.
Mostly I like to push the buttons.

Please god no. I hope ED is never like that.
Crobbler has been forced to make a bad FPS because he used a cryengine tech demo to make his terrible "game".
If i want to play an FPS then there are something fantastic ones already out there, all of which wipe the floor with Store Citizer.
I play ED to fly spaceships and not for bad FPS action and jpeg collecting.

I'm going to say it again, as I don't think people are getting this:

Space legs does not = FPS.

True dat. Sure, we'll probably have a basic weapon to use (just like the SRV does) but that doesn't mean it's going to be COD/Battlfield.
