Newcomer / Intro How to do high resolution screenshots?

I've read that Alt+F10 outputs a quad resolution version of your screengrab, but it's not working for me. I'm in Mobius PVE, and from what I read it should work in private groups? Or is it solo only now?

Nope. It also works in Private Groups.

OP, do you have Nvidia GeForce Experience installed, by any chance? By default it uses Alt-F10 to capture the last 5 minutes as a video clip. You need to go into your GeForce Experience settings and map it to something else. Note: you may have to enable screen overlay to get at your keyboard shortcut settings but you can always disable it again after you've made the changes, if you so desire.

If you don't have GeForce Experience, please disregard this.

I do have GeForce Experience! So I'm unwittingly clogging my hard disk up with pointless videos instead of taking nice pictures?

Thank you very much for the heads up.

You might also want to look up and install EDMC with the Screenshot Plugin. It will nicely convert those massive BMPs into JPG or PNG, to stop that bloat. Also renames them to the name of the System/Body which is VERY handy long term.

@ Rojo: You can take screenshots in any mode, but the 4 k ones you only get only in SOLO mode afaik.

This is very useful when you remember you have set it up otherwise you could hypothetically spend ages wondering where those screen shots have gone as there are no new .bmp anywhere.

Thanks for sharing that. I routinely save them as a different format but had no idea EDMC could rename them as the system’s name - that’s really useful.

OP - High Res does indeed work in both Solo and any Private Group. I’m a member of Mobius and Canonn with my main account and Fleetcom with my second account, all enable me to take high res images with Alt F10. Whether you need to remap keys or disable GeForce Experience is another matter, I disabled GeForce experience a long time ago.

I disabled GeForce Experience and now it works fine, thanks.
Glad I could help :)

A lot of people believe this to be true, mainly because of the above Nvidia issue, but Hi rez screenshots can be taken in Solo or Private Group. They're much bigger than 4K, too. They're sixteen times whatever your current resolution is (four times the width by four times the height).

I was starting to doubt myself so I just tried it (in a Private Group). Far too big a file to show here though (95meg)

EDIT
====

I made a glaring error in this post, and accidentally typed the word "Open" instead of "Solo". I've hihlighted the change in blue.

Yeah, it's 8000 pixels across (i'm using 1920x1080), 95meg here too.

EDIT: 7680 x 4320, or 33MP

You'd need quite a high end space camera to get that resolution.

This should be stickied.

I only just saw this - I was sure they prevented high-res screenshots in Open as it could mess with p2p networking and so was being used as a PvP exploit. I'll have to check.

Yes - checked and confirm that you cannot take a Hi-Res shot in Open Play. Alt+F10 in Open gives the same file size as F10. (In Solo / PG my Hi-Res shots are over 170MB normal ones are just under 11MB.

I seem to remember that you used to be able to control the 'magnification' factor of the hi-res screenshot in the settings.xml file.
(Options/Graphics folder)

I assume it's still possible.
If anybody's got time to play with it the line is <HighResScreenCapScale>4</HighResScreenCapScale>

I wonder if you can set it higher than 4?

Unfortunately I'm decorating the house at the moment :(

- but if anybody wants a go.....

Interestingly this is 8K resolution, coming to a living room near you. In fact Samsung have a 98" screen out now for for around the cost of a new Porche 911 lol. The Tokyo Olympics will be broadcast in 8K.
But as ever prices will rocket down in the next few years and it's the next logical step for gaming graphics too. ED in 8K

You caught me!

I actually meant to say Solo or Private Group!

Must try harder when proof-reading. Sorry about that. I'll edit the post to avoid further confusion.
