[Bored] The More I Think About The Title, The More It Perplexes Me...

Was hoping for Elite: Dangerously.

think about this
Lori Jameson
Required Elite to unlock her system
required Dangerous to unlock her
she is daughter(?) to Jameson, which is thought and suspected to have located Raxxla
Raxxla… the ultimate mystery

where is it?

You may need to be Elite/Dangerous to even have a chance of finding it

The titles of the other 3 games aren't any less stupid. Star Citizen, what sort of name is that? A "citizen" is a member of a land-based nation. Eve Online, makes it sound like a game for girls. No Man's Sky, makes no sense at all.

Wing Commander was the only title ever that made sense.

No man's sky makes sense though. Consider the universe as a giant no man's land, extended to the skies. That's how I see it anyway.

Wasnt 'dangerous' most players reached in the 1984 Elite?

I knew a few who made deadly or even elite among my own friends... I was one of them.

I made Elite as well in '84. I also conquered the Thargoid space station takeover/station destruction mission which earned me the title of Archangel in the game.

I played Elite a LOT back then, first on the C64 and then on to the 8088 PC.

Good times!

Sometimes the goal is not to make some literal sense, but to indicate certain feeling. Also, names should be catchy and unique (which gets harder with time).

"Citizen" doesn't necessarily only mean "member of land-based nation". The fact we currently don't have other kinds of nations doesn't mean aything.

EVE is a name taken from game lore. That's how a certain wormhole gate was named. It also has cultural and religious significance, representing first woman. Also, Eve is a name that means ""a living being" in Hebrew, which adds another dimension to the game name.

"No Man's Sky" just implies you'll be in places that no other human have been and could claim rights to. Space wildlands. Good name in my opinion.

Elite: Dangerous is the most confusing title of those, which probably means it could be better. People tend to think it means that the game world is supposed to be dangerous, or something else. Noone understands it without lengthy explanation and to be honest- then it gets even more confusing.
I think this:
So it's just... "Elite: Sort of"..lol
pretty much sums it up.

We just need to remember that "Elite" is name of the franchaise, like "Total War". The next part is the name of that particular game. In case of Total War we have titles like TW:Medieval, TW:Napoleon etc, here we have Elite: Dangerous.

So that it wouldn't be confused with its ultimate Kickstarter sibling aka the space opera Drama Queen aka Star Citizen?

TBH Elite was a copy cat knock off said cultist vaporware. And was actually released several decades before pre-alpha SC will get released later this century. Sometime around 2077 or so. Perhaps even next century at the pace God Roberts considers software development.

Besides, SC is so trivial, bland and goody-goody-two-shoes sounding. While Elite and Dangerous simply just stands out. Knocks you upside yer pate, ya know?

I imagine "Elite: Harmless" just wouldn't have had the desired sales appeal.

However, "Elite: Master" ? Hmmmm....

I grew up in the early 80/90s. I expected what I got from the Box and video commercial action.

I knew nothing of a kickstarter. They dont really explain the modes system and what it entails outside of that elsewhere.

I dont think people should have to find a kickstarter and do 1000 pounds of research to find these things out.

When I saw Elite: Dangerous. What we got vs What I expected are very very different. I expected some of those things to be fixed right out of the gate like any other game that's out there.

Is that my fault? No.

Who the hell looks for a game to buy thats different from a MOBA or FPS and says, "OH! I better go see if they had a kickstarter for any weird rules that could break the game and make a buncha people angry at each other".

Elite Dangerous has sucked me in though. I enjoy it. Cant wait to see whats next.

That mission/title wasn't in the BBC version...

Yeah, it seems that not everybody got that mission/version. It is unfortunate since it was quite an exciting and arduous mission. An end game kind of thing.

Some versions feature a new title, "Archangel", for the player to earn that substitutes the rank of Commander. Archangel is reached by undertaking a special mission to destroy a space station in a system invaded by the Thargoids. The player's reward for completing the mission is to receive the title Archangel and obtain a device that is capable of emulating anti-ECM broadcast

I never got to go to another galaxy but others did. I guess we all had different experiences.

I always thought it was a terrible title because it tells those who don’t know the franchise absolutely nothing of value.

The first time I saw ED in the Oculus Store, all I saw was the icon, the name, and the price tag, and moved on. Nothing up front to even show you it’s a space game. If I hadn’t chanced upon a thread in another forum that mentioned it I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
