Just lost at least 170 million credits - ARGH!

Just kill the npc's or run away - can't do either? then your build was a risk (perhaps a calculated one I hope ?)- just like flying without a rebuy. Don't mean to sound harsh, but that's the truth of it.

Just spent 3 - 4 hours mining for void opals - no NPCs anywhere. Fired a prospecting limpet. Game crashed - rejoined game - checked my 110 - (117?) void opals were still there :D along with my diamonds and anderite? great - was then instantly attacked by NPCs . and died. !

I know i might have been attacked on the way back when i decided to go back to cash in, but no NPCs for 90 minutes game crash, restart then NPCs straight away - REALLY? - give me a break. ARGHHHHHH!!!!! Nuff said!

instance npc's if there isn't already an instance is determined when you 'change' instance, from/to supercruise or login and similar, so when you logged in you got a new instance, instance had npc.

What happens when the game induces complete destruction of your ship (like from that server CTD respawn inside the asteroid) and you have no insurance?

Do you get refunded your entire ship (minus your hard earned mining proceedings?)

Or do you get to start over yet again in that @#$%!& toaster of a starter ship?

I guess what I'm really asking is:
What happens when you save up just enough to buy your desired ship. But are now completely broke and don't have enough credits to cover insurance. So you're trying to earn credits using your newly upgraded mining ship. And in process of doing so, end up losing it to NPCs or a game crash like the one you described. Before you were able to save up enough for the insurance.

Do you basically lose 100% of all that hard work and effort then? i.e. get down graded back to your freebie starter flying wafflemaker?

If you die to a glitch like the asteroid teleport, Support will probably reimburse your stuffs; they're pretty easygoing that I've seen.

If you die in the course of normal gameplay and can't get your ship back because you don't have any backup credits for at least one replacement, well that's probably on you as a pilot. Save up at least one rebuy first, or live with the risk and consequences. It'll take a lot longer to re-save for the entire ship than to build a rebuy cushion.

Also stop trashtalking the Sidewinder. :p That ship has been flown to Sag A * and back. I still fly it on occasion because it's fun; it's like a weekend roadster.

Due to the Mining Hardpoint Inflation, I'm now mining in a Cutter w/ SLF.

It just got too annoying having to deal with Wings spawning everytime I take a break and log back in or change Hotspots somewhere in a remote, uninhabited System.

FYI, if you just boost away until they disappear from your scanner, they won't come back.

Pro tip here, whenever you drop in to a mining ring or RES, there will be NPC pirates. This is NBD if you are just getting there and only have limpets in the hold, but they will attack if you have anything more.

You were not instantly attacked, they always issue a demand, then a warning. I use a python for mining and I have a rated thrusters, with 4 pips to ENG i can keep boosting. The method is as follows.

1) drop out of SC/load instance
2) target one of the chumps
3) boost away from them until they jump out (should only take a minute or two.)

Happy hunting!

This is what I do too.

[haha] So much sympathy, guys!

Commiserations, pugh, it sux to get caught out like that. The good news is it won't take long to get the goodies back- the gold rush was only mildly nerfed. Better luck next time. [hotas]

One for the floor- if you have a system targeted before the game crashes, will it still come up when you hit your 'next system on route' key when you respawn?

There some very basic safe practices in this game and one of them is "Don't fly if you can't rebuy". In other words it's a very bad idea to purchase a more expensive ship unless you also have sufficient credits for an insurance rebuy and, preferably, several rebuys.

If it's a glitch/bug, you can ask support nicely to get your ship refunded, best done before clicking the rebuy.
But please only do if it was a bug. I lost a cutter once to glitchy landing gear/light posts, got the rebuy and the fighter pilot refunded.

Next time log to menu when you see the bad guys, log in again see what appears, may just be security. If so carry on mining

Seriously? Your advice is to log until there are security forces?

Not change the outfit of the ship?

:x

I'll repeat it like a broken vinyl player - IF-THEN programming at it's best. Game doesn't care if you log out yourself for a bio break, your better half demanding house waste handling, your ISP decided to play switch off/switch on, electricity failure or game itself crashing. Loading into the space with cargo, in an asteroid field (in your case you don't have ANY chance avoiding it) means one thing - pirates.

Simple IF (cargo in hold), THEN pirates spawn. Every. g. Time.

<sarcasm mode ON>
I just love such mechanics. No reason, no plausibility, nothing. Just trigger activation met, trigger released. Realism thrown out of the window. Because.
<sarcasm mode OFF>

But I guess it's the FDEVs idea of "dangerous" part of mining. I was tempted to try it but stories like that make me reconsider. What's the fun in it when you can't counter for means for triggering an action are beyond your control. One thing is good - with such idiotic IF-THEN design you are certain it will happen anyway. Looks like I won't be mining before I get my Corvette.

It's a bad mechanic. But it's THE mechanic we have. So build accordingly...

And you can build every ship NPC proof.

How would you improve it?
