If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

Something should be done.
As it is, the FSS is, ironically, an exploration enjoyment killer.

Ditch it, I say. And, quick, an’ all.

We get your point, you don't have to say it every page. At this point you're just trolling. Shouldn't your pram be empty by now?
(Unless you're sarcastically hinting at how long the same couple of people go on and on and on in this thread. In which case: bravo)

You know, this reminds me of that horrid new mechanic they added to exploring that forces you to come to a complete stop and dial in frequencies in order to discover stuff. It's horrible and reminds me tuning an old CB radio. It needs to be changed, it break immersion.

I'm shall continue to bemoan the FSS as long as there's a thread open discussing how it isn't very good.

You know you don't have to come to a complete stop right? Just hit zero throttle and you can immediately enter the FSS even if you're still slowing down. That being said, yes it would be an improvement if we didn't have to slow down at all.
Then again, you would be trying to scan moving targets (relative to you that is).

Without bothering to read this extremely long thread fully..... I don't get the problem.

It took me a while to adapt to the new system and I wasn't sure at first but it's much better; Honk still makes you as much money if not more than before, it's pretty obvious from the FSS mode if there is anything you are interested in and doing a full system scan is miles faster than in the old system. The more effort to put in the more you get out!

Tonight I found life on a planet for the first time ever (for me), I didn't find it via YouTube or by spending hundreds of hours flying around a planet aimlessly. I found it because there was a biological signal from a planet in a system I was only scanning because I was fuel scooping.

The only downside I see from the new system is that you have to throttle back to use the scanner.... doesn't take long to adapt to that as you only have to throttle back not be below a given velocity.

See bugs i can forgive. See stuff like the ui endlessly looping bold text in every system is harmless and i don't think twice about it.

This is in massive contrast to what they did with exploration:

- The removed and replaced a prior mechanic that many people used with a system that only caters for people who never used the prior system.
- Other player demographics, not the prior users, frontier bent over backwards for to ensure that the new mechanic would not have to be used, yet the people who liked the prior mechanic are forced fed the new system.

Im having real trouble accepting this.. because frontier obviously don't care and are willing to compromise with the fss.. just not with people who actually liked the old game they built... only the people that hate it.

You don't say.

Wait until it happens to something you like. I was a more objective version of you for years.. now finally i understand.

Frontier have turned off a few of my favourite things to do over the years (bgs combing the bubble for mission stacking and surface missions from c+p) but this is too much.

Right, because we should be passive passengers on our own ships, with only a few buttons:

1. Explore System
2. Kill Enemies
3. Collect Rewards

How many ways can you be wrong in just one post!

Everyone used the old system, they had to, it was the only one available. And the new system does cater for everyone, just some don't like it yet others do. Yes the new system has seen a jump in players trying exploration again, but isn't that an indication that the new system is working, dare I say it, an improvement!

As for other player demographics, are you talking about the mining upgrades as in they left the old mining tools available and just added new ones? If yes, then you maybe haven't tried mining since the update. Yes you can mine the old way but if you want to mine the new stuff, you can only achieve that using the new tools. Here is a test, jump in your old miner, head out and mine me a ship full of Void Opals just using the old mining lasers. Take your time, I will wait for your answer :D

So... utilizing exploits. Fiat lux.

Some (admittedly few) of us think that repeatedly twiddling dials while not flying our ships isn't engaging gameplay.
But conversley a honk and flying in a straight line at a little white dot is engaging!

They have a point - a style of exploration gameplay has been lost with the introduction of the FSS (planets remaining partially unknown till you actually fly out to them) and the whole twiddling exercise before you can see what is in the system rather then the old single-button honk. IMO the new version (clunky UI aside) is a vast improvement and far more time-respectful and that some explorers doth protest toomuch, methinks. ;)

The mistake that people like Burke and you make is to assume that people who aren't going nuts love everything about ED. There is tons of stuff I disagree with, and if it were up to me this game would be radically different. I just accept that that is just my preference, this is just a game, other people exist and FD makes the shot in the end. Plenty of time they did the opposite of what I wanted. In those case I said:"Boo, I dont like this." and moved on. And sometimes things happened to games to the point I didnt like playing them. So I stopped. But I didnt post on a daily basis how I didnt like some decisions about a game, because that is weird.

You still like ED enough to play it? Play it. You dont? Play something else. You dont like any game anymore? Do something else with your life. Seriously, you'll be much happier.
