Is everyone ready for the training-wheels to come off?

Imho the trip doesn't really start before Sagittarius A*, and even then it'll be with a starport right behind us. So... ready and it can't happen too soon :D

Rohini (with a station) is one of the listed POIs along the way to WP3. But after that, I fully expect us to break away from the Colonia road. I don't have any insider information on the actual plans, but I did try to participate a little bit in the scouting event earlier in the year, which implied a more direct-ish route. We'll have to see how much zig-zagging was added.
Just got to Eagle's Landing, cute little outpost. Sold data, repaired, and am taking risks in the narrow winding canyons. Wow, lots of fun !!!!!!

Is the far side of the galaxy more dangerous (because of more non-sequence stars for example), or is it just because there are no stations nearby where one can make repairs? If a pilot pays attention then I don't think it makes much of a difference. I will laugh, though, if, after all this I'll be the first to die out there. :D

Mostly it's just the lack of stations. And then there is the Abyss… think everyone has to decide for themself if that is dangerous or not.

This is like saying driving west of the Mississippi is leaving civilization. We'll be fine. Besides, we have a station at Sag A. Even this week we have a stop off at Rohini.

The biggest danger, I think, is boredom and sleepiness because if you don't pay attention you may jump to a white dwarf or a neutron star and you won't react in time to steer clear before getting too close to them. Also, when landing on planets and not paying attention to how strong gravity is. But all of these can be averted by paying a bit of attention at all times.

Yep, I totally agree. The biggest danger is ourselves. It's more a test of persistence, than survival against dangers. ;)

I didn't mean in terms of danger (danger? What danger?), but in terms of feeling like I'm going to remote places. As long as there starports nearby I don't feel like I'm leaving at all.

Indeed... Particularly if you're a bit dopey like me, you have your Discovery scanner and Surface scanner on different fire groups but with the same trigger, and you forget to switch to the Disc. scanner when you jump into a system. So, that's how I found myself mistakenly going into Surface scanner mode just as I entered a system, with a huge, hotter-than-the-pits-of-Hades star in front of me, and growing massively with each second. I panicked and couldn't remember which key I'd bound to exit Surface mode (and forgot that it tells you at the bottom of the screen...) By the time I'd found it, I'd managed to cook my Cutter and a few of the internals. To make matters worse, my heatsink is bound to the fire group that has the Disc. scanner, so my frantic hammering of that particular button did nothing to avert the Imperial barbeque!

Let's just say that I love my AFMU and repair limpets. Plus I've now moved the Surface scanner to a trigger that hopefully won't see me repeat last night's near disaster!

I'm thinking the 2nd half, return legs may be interesting as the DW2 plan is to retrace the same journey as 'Star Trek: Voyager'. Maybe someone will stumble across Amelia Earharts' plane, or we'll be hounded by Kazon gankers wanting to steal bits of bubble technology, see some monolithic battles of thargoids vs. live guardians vs. species 8472, find a SevenOfNine clone where each cmdr can acquire as new crew and bring back to the bubble with them, lol.

Even if we head directly for the core from the Conflux settlements, we'll be traversing some relatively sparsely-explored space (as you know well, since it's your server making the heatmap I'm looking at right now). And I daresay if the remaining legs are of similar length to this one, we actually can't zig-zag too much and make it to SagA in four weeks. But ask me, I think the pace will be picking up a little bit. I'll go out on a limb and guess that WP4 is in the vicinity of the Dragon's Head nebula.

Many of the participants here are veteran explorers, but we also have a large number of newbie explorers too. As we leave WP2, our last space station will recede further and further behind us (until we build the new one in the core, but the same thing will happen again there too).

I feel like the expedition is just getting started now, since we've had the Omega Mining station, and the bubble, accessible for the last two weeks.

Are you ready? ;)

I’ve been ready for four frelling years. Six if you count the time waiting between the Kickstarter and the Alpha. ;)

Looking forward to it.

Farthest I've been from the bubble was 35kylies with my original PC backer CMDR... Made a few minor mistakes on the journey but got back with just under 90% on hull and modules.

PS4 CMDR hasn't exceeded 10kylies yet, just several lone expeditions that cumulatively accrued to Elite Explorer immediately prior to DW2 departure (10 tagged ELWs and over 100 WWs - and not even one single passenger mission in sight.)

god speed CMDRs

Should I be ignoring the ones that keep talking about boxes of matches and "the time of purification" ? Asking for a friend.

I'm sure that anything involving fire has to be perfectly safe. Rather, what I find suspicious is the bobblehead that keeps talking about opening the canopy.
