PvP A question of honour

I do believe this, of course I do (silly question, really) - some kind of arena game no doubt. I loathe those kinds of games with a passion.

What a stroke of luck that E: D is not one of those games. [up]

Um, are you serious? Open mode is absolutely an "arena" game. Anyone and everyone is allowed to kill each other. People like YOU try to impose some kind of unspoken rules on everyone else and try to force the way you want to play on other players. And when you don't get your way, you come to the internet to complain, call these players names and tell them they have no honor.
We are playing the game the way it was intended and that's all it is, A GAME.
When you play Monopoly do you try enforcing your own rules when you start to lose? How about with chess or poker? Do you ever see people trying to change the rules to fit their own playstyle or just play the game the way it was made to be played. This is the way Elite Dangerous was made to be played so stop trying to shame players that don't want to play your rules. If you don't want to play by the rules of the game then play in solo/pg and shut up.

Perhaps stop putting words into my mouth - I'm not trying to change the rules of the game - far from it.

You either have some honour in the game, or you don't.

I do. I feel it is important in the game space. In this game, or any other. ymmv. You mention monopoly or chess - please don't suggest I would try to change the rules, that's ridiculous as well as being beside the point.

If a player doesn't have honour, then that is "fine". I still *expect* it, whether they do or they do not. Perhaps that's more of a reflection on my own personal character than it is on anything else :D . This has no bearing on the rules and has no bearing on the way you play.

All you gotta do is accept that if you act with no honour in the game, then own the fact that you act with no honour in the game, but don't label the rest of us in the same way. Some of us have honour. And in possessing it, we do *expect it* of others. That's not a projection. You don't *have* to.

Enjoy

Menu logging is not 'combat logging' according to Frontier. Just FYI.

No maybe not, but the majority of the Elite community consider it just as bad.

That being said I am not sure you want to open this can of worms here, we can hash it out for a few pages, or we can just go on with our afternoon and agree to disagree.

I prefer the latter choice.

I agree that the majority of PvPers consider menu logging to be unkosher, but certainly not the majority of PvEers.

Escaping death by turning the game off or logging out just before die is the most disgraceful, dishonorable and pathetic thing you can do in a video game. Especially when it's against another player. You can make up whatever excuses you want but everyone that knows how to play the game, even pve-ers, are laughing at you. You are cheating your way out of a death in the game regardless of whether the devs allow it or not.

Yes. Menu logging is legit.

But it still makes you a scrub who can't play.

Yeah just like instance flipping to gain an advantage or following helpful how-to guides & external tools to get all the right gear them complaining the game is boring & too easy. Bunch of cheating scrubs not deserving our respect, right?

Or, play your own way, let them play theirs.

;)

Oddly enough I had the same reaction to your post about Kraits. Some people are just hypocrites right? It's kinda silly really, they have no honour.

Kraits? Oh you mean my little story about The Krait Phantom and the Guardian bois?

Nice to know I have a fanclub

My only issue with the whole combat log issue is that at the end of the day it does not affect me at all if they quit the fight. I guess I don’t care if I explode because it’s just a video game and I have literally nothing to lose but my time that is obviously not important if I am spending it on a video game. The luxury of modern life is I can devote time to play in space. :) lifes good

You mean you met someone that actually read the whole thread rather than just jumping in & assuming they could make out the OP to be a 'scrub'?.

This conversation has been had already Replicant. The first few posts were deleted and the thread was moved from DD to the PvP section but the meat of it is still there for you to read. The OP was flying an Asp, so was the aggressor.

And anyone that thinks legitimately exiting the game is cheating is a troll or an idiot.

Well i think anyone that thinks its ok to exit the game to avoid getting shot at by another player is a troll or an idiot.

I have some very strong opinions on CLogging and have put considerable effort into explaining them as clearly and unambiguously as possible on this Forum. Using the 15 sec timer to leave the game isn't cheating. It could be changed, it could be extended & the conformation could be moved to the start & have the screen go black & mute the sound but in the game as it is it isn't cheating.

Instance flipping because you don't like the cards you were dealt, or following a how-to guide to skip the whole puzzle solving gameplay isn't really all that bad but on the scale of what is a cheat & what isn't both are further up the 'this is cheating' scale than legitimately exiting the game by waiting out the 15 sec timer.

If you say so. :)

Don't let me say so. Just look at the 3 plus 1 career rank structures... (Hint: an arena that is "added on" - if the main game was an arena, then there would have been no need for an arena as an add on, would there?)

The penny might drop eventually.

Of course, any player could *treat* E: D as an arena type game. The fact that some player's appear to treat it like that doesn't suddenly make it into an arena type game.

We all recognise this, right?

Also, "honor" can be in the eye of the beholder.
My group believes PvP fights should always be fought "report crimes against me" off. We Laugh at other groups who fight us with crimes on. To us that's honor (be it among thieves) but to them it isn't.
