How to deal with a Deadly Conda

Ok guys, I spend most of my time going around doing transport jobs and mining. Its just relaxing for me. Well, I decided to rank up with the Empire and the Feds. Im on a fed mission now where I have to go in a grab a blown up ships 4 black boxes. OK, that's easy. But in drops a Deadly Conda and between 3 to 6 minions of varying types. So, I go in with My Chieftain Crusader. Get into a knife fight and get out of the battle twice with less then 5% haul left.

How do I win this fight?

I went and grabbed my (seldom used) Conda and put PL on top and MC on bottom and added a Fighter Bay, and every bit of Haul armor i can get. Even added in Shield boosters.

Is this the correct approach?

How experienced at combat are you? If the answer is little to no experience, then these missions will be too hard for you. I suggest starting out at Low/High res sites. You can try to tank in a conda by putting a bunch of reinforcements and boosters, but I'm guessing you're not engineered, so you won't be that strong, and the conda is a huge target that's easy to hit, so I doubt it'll make things any easier for you.

If it's just a conda grab something agile and sit in it's dead zone (close and above it works, snipe that pp), if there are other ships you may still be able to take out the conda and get away while taking their fire if you sit right on it and take it out quick... Otherwise sure go for the beefiest build you can make with your conda, maybe ram it.

If you're just there for a black box, boost in, grab it, boost out.

You actually don't need to fight the conda if you have collection limpets. Get a fat 5A controller, drop your three limpets and they will scoop up the cargo before you have to deal with the conda. Then bug out.

While it is totally possible to deal with a deadly anaconda with a stock conda and a reasonable build (no engineering), it certainly is easier to do with a bit of engineering.

Basic engineering includes the reinforced armor G5 from Selene Jean, G5 Overcharged multicannons, G5 efficient of long range lasers. There is a wide range of strategies on how to manage shields, with sustained combat in a res zone usually favoring biweaves, and singular fights usually favoring A rated shields (with reinforced engineering).

As a novice combat pilot, you may want to use turreted or gimballed weapons, but they lack punch and will be rendered temporarily useless by chaff. Either be patient when this occurs and hold fire, or deselct the target and try to fire without the gimbal assist. Good luck!

I made the experience, that the elite condas use the same engineered stuff that we use aswell, the recharge their shields plenty of times and have hull enforcement and all the nice things you would prefer to have installed on your ship.

Atm, i running through the CZ and HighRes Zones with a simple shardcannon built (engineered g5-doubleshot). It has a big punch, is a hell of a ride speedwise and outturns an anaconda with ease.

With this build i don't have any problems and even less problems with the big 3.

I think you are better with a smaller ship against the anaconda. Maybe try the Chiftain with shard cannon (and charge the prmium ammo with synthesized materials), good thrusters if possible engineered and give it a try.

Good think with smaller and faster ships- you can always leave the combat!

Don't fight.

Drop in, immediately deploy all limpets, open cargo hatch, park directly above the loot, with 4 pips to shields.
(Shields should be best available, with thermal resistance, plus boosters).
Deploy chaff as soon as you begin to take fire.
Target nearby system, that's not obscured.
As soon as the cargo is all in your hold, close hatch, boost off and jump to avoid mass lock.
If you're not mass locked, just hop to supercruise.

I'll try this!

You don't win the fight.

A big, really HUGE part of this game is knowing when to fight and when to run. In this scenario you do not fight. You collect the black boxes and RUUUUUUN!

It should be obvious you are not going to win a fight with an Anaconda and four escorts. Don't get side-tracked when completing missions.

It is normal, when a ship engages you to feel like you must drop everything and fight him/them to the death but, stay on mission!

Also, chose the right tool for the job. The Chieftain is a big, lumbering combat ship and the job is a grab-and-run. Maybe choose a smaller, faster ship that is maneuverable enough to grab the boxes and escape. Might even be a job for an A-rated Sidewinder. When I did it I used a DBX.

Another point to consider when trying to decide how you approach this mission depends on what ships you have, how capable your ships are and how capable you are as a CMDR. A very competent CMDR in an A-rated Cutter, properly modified and outfitted will handle a mission of this type in a very different manner than a "mostly harmless" CMDR flying a smaller, less capable ship. o7

I agree with the already given advice.

Provided you would run a full engineered Conda or even a Corvette it would be easy. Drop in, start collecting, as soon as the Conda drops in, take it out and afterwards its bunnies are easy preys.

However if not, then as said, 4 pips on sys, 2 on engines, collector limpet controllers, best case that you can drop 4 drones in parallel (e.g. 2x size 3 or 1x size 3 + 1x size 5), get the things and then wake out.

Only challenge, sometimes - I know it well cause I regularly take these missions - you can't collect everything and drones lose their function as soon as you get shot at.

Then you have three possibilities.

#1 - Fight the pack and kill them. (Not recommended in a smaller ship if not fit for combat)

#2 - Collect for instance 2 black boxes and then low wake. Instance will remain persistent in the system. Drop in a second time, you will get 4 new black boxes, and collect the rest.

#3 - Abandon the mission.

Drop into the USS, then when the bad guys appear boost away at full speed a few km. It'll space the attackers out a bit so you don't have to handle them all at once. The smaller ships will get to you first so you can deal with them without having to worry about the Annie too much. Then it's just a 1v1 with the Annie, kill it and then scoop the cargo.

Alright guys, well we did it. I grabbed my Krait MkII and buzzed in there. The first attempt I was too slow. The Conda jumped in with 8 Minions this time and promptly "butt " me into anther life. I paid the 5 mil in insurance, jumped in again and grabbed 2 before the "" started again. I boosted and got free and then jumped right back in. There I grabbed the last 2 and was boosting as they cut their sub-light engines. Away and free got my reward. On a positive note, I took my souped uo Battle Conda in and brought down some hate and discontent on some helpless NPSs. Not exactly the Star Destroyer I always we wanted.

Frags or Pacifiers, especially modded, will melt any NPC in seconds.

I have three pacs on my haulage Python and I look forward to encountering Deadly and Elite NPC Anacondas.

I was actually in the same situation yesterday. It was a bunch of ships jumping me when I tried to collect the mission objective.

I did what you did, collect a few and run. Reenter and repeat until all is collected.

Do you have military grade bulkheads? All pips to shields and engines?

I may experiment with using mines

ahh, elite black box missions. the highest paying per ton missions in the game at around 1 million per ton.

there are two ways to approach this type of mission. tank it or speed through it. tanking should be self explanatory so I'll cover the other option.

NOTE: when i say speed i'm referring to efficiency and speed of collection and not exactly the speed of the ship. for what it' worth these are my baseline mission (my in game job if you will) and are performed in an asp scout.

ANOTHER NOTE: fighting in these instances are tricky. you cannot extend greater than 7km from the black boxes or they will disappear and you will need to exit and re-enter the instance which can lead to a circle of death. i suggest skipping the fight until after you've secured the cargo

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • limpets: don't bother scooping manually. not that it can't be done. but we're after efficiency here. You will want to be able to shoot 3 and preferably 4 limpets at once with a collection range of greater than 1.5km
  • good shields and hull protection
  • 16+ cargo: at their highest offering trying to collect 4 black boxes will earn you about 1-3 million plus mission bounties along with local bounties for the mission bounties. when you get good stack these missions for some real fun :). I once managed 32 tons of black boxes then took all of my attackers (about 4 dangerous+ anacondas) into a federation checkpoint. boy that was fun.

THE PROCESS
  • before dropping into the instance you want to make sure you entered supercruise with fa/off. when you exit supercruise your ship will receive a burst of 50% of thrust and if you exit supercruise with fa/off, which is achieved by entering supercruise while in fa/off, you will maintain that thrust speed and a constant vector directly to the black boxes. this is important to minimize the amount of stuff you have to worry about. once you drop you will already be in motion going in the right direction.
  • as soon as you drop into the instance open your left panel and target each black box one at a time and fire a limpet. remember that you must wait for each limpet to completely fire or they will bug out and die. the first limpet always has the longest animation.
  • keep an eye on distance. you drop about 1.5km from the target and will be travelling around 150 m/s or so depending on your ship. typically once you fire the final limpet you want to all stop. from a free floating fa/off position the quickest way to achieve this is to set a button for 0 throttle. then hit that button and turn fa/on. you will reverse thrust to a full stop. you may need to play around with the best time to stop in the given ship you are flying to make sure you are not still in motion while a limpet returns (it more than likely will bounce off your hull and be destroyed).
  • while your ship is coming to a stop open your cargo hatch
  • by about the time of the 3rd black box being collected you should hear the sounds of pirates behind you. since 3.0 they will most times begin firing immediately. make sure your shields are at full strength, bite your lip and wait for collection to complete. it should only be a second or two. you may be tempted but don't move. a well built ship can take it.
  • once you collect the final black box RETRACT YOUR CARGO BAY. apologies for the caps. but by this time you will be under heavy fire and need that boost - i have forgotten and been destroyed because of it. turn and boost right into your attackers and into the black.
  • from here you can either turn and fight, low wake or high wake. be warned, most elite black box missions will have a dangerous+ mission pirate once you enter supercruise. the most persistent of enemies. so gauge your ability for multiple fights with high ranked opponents. that doesn't count the normal random pirate who seem to know you have cargo.

that's it. now get paid

fly dangerous CMDR

What threat level was the mission signal source? I did the same mission type and got a threat 4...

In a non engineered combat fitted type 10 I barely lasted a minute. They attack on sight, didn’t even scan my cargo hold like in previous versions. Yes I tried to run when my shields were dropping too quickly.

I’d call threat 4 a bug, unless you’re in a wing of full combat ships yourself.
