Help me choose my deep core only, manually scooping miner build.

Hi

I am considering changing my Viper4 which I use for this. It's a great ship but I want a better cockpit view.

Viper 4 had 32 cargo - which is around 2 rocks worth. I think my preferred time is 3 - 5 rocks.

Here are my choices so far.

Shield-less Vulture - this has enough for 48 cargo / 3 roids. Love the nimbleness of this baby and it has a decent cockpit view (better than viper4 anyway). Only put off by lack of shields which might not be too much of a biggie.

Or

The Asp E? It has bags of room and a fab view, still fairly nimble. I am just bored of the ship as it is my go to ship after the Sidey.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks!

Use the DBS, 24 cargo counting the refinery, no room for DSS though. Don't really need one if you're okay with getting random dcm minerals.

The cockpit is bugged though, it has the DBX cockpit model.

Many thanks for all of the replies.

A Keelie miner? She is a fab ship, one of the best in game iyam. I think I would struggle to sacrifice the SLF though because I play her as my tank as I pilot her SLF. Also the bridge is a bit dull - shhhhhhh. Brilliant view though and still small enough for my optimum (50x 40m x 15m)!

Hadn't thought of the clipper, here is a tweaked version Jakester13's badboy...
Better than average view and I love how it allows me to have an SRV for when I want to stretch my legs. It is almost too big though (107m x 104m x 25m).
Question: are the large mounts on the nacelles or on the body? I would like the large pulses to be fixed.

DBS is pretty cool! Looks the part too! Fab cockpit! As a first miner ship this would be it! I think I need to mine hotspots now though. Soes your ship remember if you have scanned a ring even if you haven't got a ADS?

Totally hadn't thought about the Krait. I even have one. Loving this build. I like how I can still hold on to both SLFs and SRV to stretch my legs!
One of the best cockpits in game.
Just a little bit too chunky to be ideal though (73m x 72m x 14m). AspE is 57x 51m x 20m.

I am proper tempted for the Krait!

Just fit collectors :)

Hehe! I enjoy the challenge of scooping the fragments. When each scoop is worth at least 400k. It's very satisfying. :)

I am using a Krait very similar to your build. It's grait.

Good tweak!

Yeah the large are on the nacelles, so convergence takes some getting used to, but it isn't insurmountable... I am now running a turreted frag cannon - guaranteed 3-shot-hit on every pass - and a fixed beam (with engineering), which melts NPCs quite nicely. (In a non-mining set-up the 2 mediums similarly fitted with fixed on one side and gimablled on t'other). Dirty Drag Drives make boosting through the field a buzz, too :D

I've tried a few, and checked countless build possibilities on coriolis.io, but kept coming back to the Asp.
For me it's the perfect core miner, plus it looks really 'minery' with my rusty raider kit on it. :)

I started the new mining with my old Annie build, not ideal due to size. Moved to the Krait MKII, big improvement but not fast enough to outrun the pirates that ALWAYS show up..... moved to the Krait Phantom. This was the ideal ship for deep core only mining, don't even mount mining lasers or abrasion blasters, fast enough un-engineered to get away if needed. I would highly recommend collector limpets though, I run a single controller as it is much easier to collect the chunks in the tight spaces, and the limpets are much better than they used to be and don't suicide nearly as often.

Another vote for both the Keelback and the Krait Phantom.

The Keelback is agile with a terrific view, but mine (Little Willie) didn't carry enough cargo, so I bought a Phantom (Mother).

The view's not as good, but it's the ideal mix of agility, carrying capacity and equipment for me. I haven't engineered mine yet, but I've got a decent shield, some defensive weapons, a hefty fuel scoop and 96 tons of cargo space. It's fast enough to get out of trouble- well, against NPCs anyway! :D- with enough jump range to get outside the bubble to quieter pristine rings in a reasonable amount of time. Highly recommend it!

If you like the Asp-X, it does have a great view and does a pretty good job deep-core mining, I tried it when I could fit 4 abrasion blasters and get 4 fragments but then went back to my other, big mining ship. I would still consider collector limpets but here is a limpet-less build: https://s.orbis.zone/1-wd

I also created a limpet-less build for the Cobra Mk. III but due to the C3's size it is kind of short on storage space: https://s.orbis.zone/1-we

Both these builds have shields AND Engineer mods you may not have access to but, no prospector limpet controllers which are very helpful.

My personal favorite miner is a Corvette, something to work towards:

Plenty of cargo space, TWO big collector limpet controllers, big prospector limpet controller, HUGE refinery, big seismic charge launcher, two abrasion blasters with room left for good shields, decent weapons and enough juice to easily power it all. o7

Thanks for the replies!

I had a go with the shieldless DBS. Also no ADS so I was hitting the rings blind which I was totally apprehensive about because I didn't know if the non-hotspot areas spawned anything!

It was a blast! In about 40 minutes I had filled the 16+8 slots with ore (Voids and Alexandrite) which netted me 15 million, which is totally satisfying. I loved the fact that I had to be fully aware of my surroundings because of the shields. My typically style is to bosh through the debris, letting the shields deflect the rocks. I fly FA off exclusively and hopping over those loose rocks was great fun. Hull was at 86% when I returned.

Great fun. I am tempted to reroll my alt and go straight for this workhorse.
