Space legs: things I’d like to see.

Space legs are gonna show up sooner or later it’s just a matter of time. What would you like to see?

I’d imagine assassinations and massacres could be fun to do on foot then blast off into space and lose the system authorities.

you could disable, force to land, and then capture NPC’s (or players) alive to get a larger reward or just to flex on some nerd who thought he could get away with selling slaves in federation space.

EVA-ing to repair your ship out in deep space would be amazing.

Obviously i’m gonna Neil Armstrong and plant the flag on every planet I can land on. Imperial colony? Nah I put down the federation flag so this entire planet is clearly the Federation’s property.

Space legs is a ways off but I can’t wait.

Manual ship repairs would be great.
Infiltrating planetary outposts, shutting down force-fields, communications and the like.
Conducting research, collecting sample, things like this appeal to me.

Firstly, I'd be shocked if FDev went the SC route and implemented a separate FPS for Spacelegs. Instead I'd expect them to be very ship focused. Walking around ships and stations. Walking around the ship to repair. Looking through destroyed ships for salvage. Stuff like that.

I'm also far less certain of spacelegs than, say, landable earthlike worlds. That's because 60% of the gameplay you'd expect from legs, is already attached to SRVs. Get out and explore planets? SRV. Explore inside alien structures? SRV. Ground based combat? SRV. Hack into and infiltrate human compounds? SRV. (Note: those are rare, but there are big human compounds that require you to hack laser walls and shut down power-grids to infiltrate).
I would expect to see atmospheric planets and expanded SRVs long before spacelegs.

Edit: Actually - back when holo-me was added, some of us thought that it was a precursor to a much more involved multicrew system. The multicrew we ended up with is bare bones (to be kind), but if we were to get spacelegs, I'd want it to be part of a massive multicrew overhaul. Have someone running around the ship to manually repair or reroute power.... that kind of stuff.

Easiest way to introduce space legs is with EVA activities. You'd be using the same controls for the jet pack as the ship (including "fire" for a weapon) and add a few for pick up, drop, take from pouch, put in pouch, etc. EVA could include repair of the ship (yours or that of an NPC), exploring a derelict ship for clues to some kind of quest.

On the ground, exploring abandoned bases that look like they were attacked, checking for clues as to what happened, possibly checking for NPC survivors for rescue. And of course, checking that hatch leading to the tunnels under the base. The tunnels that are probably filled with space-zombies.

Taking biological samples from plants perhaps?

Derping around. I do enjoy a good derp.

Erm...

Not sure. I bought ED to fly spaceships, so spacelegs, while it will be nice, i'm not sure what it will bring to the table.

As long as whatever they add is optional activities i suppose it will be fine. If they try and force the use of spacelegs i think it will make a lot of people angry.

I doubt space legs will take away whats already in game they wouldnt change the game that much they already have established lore for the current docking menus at stations

I think it'll all be very simple and designed to work with the mechanics that are already there.

I don't think we'll ever have walking around in stations. At most it'll be a teleport to some type of bar/hub.
I doubt we'll ever physically open the door of the SRV or fighter and climb into/out of it. I think that'll always be some sort of short cutscene.
I think tasks will mostly be SRV related, getting out of the buggy to collect things or do things down on planets.
Walking around ship interiors would be great but there is so much work to do regarding component placements.

In general ... based on what we've seen for the last three year, I think if they release anything at all, it'll be pretty bare bones.

My same wishes!
1. Walk inside ship to see the modules and be able to repair or provide temporary boosts to the ship systems.
2. Leave and board the ship using the ship elevator. Walk to the SRV bay rather than seeing a fade-out transition
3. Missions where you sneak inside outposts
4. Walk around spaceports (I can accept to take some turbo-lift as loading screen to move to social areas, mission terminals, cargo depots or dormitories)
5. Explore caves or dungeons (Guardians/Thargoids) and collect samples for the research (values rewarded as codex vouchers or cartographics).
