Calling all miner 69ers...

Alternatively, if you want an easy life and to avoid all the frustration and boredom associated with hunting for Void Opals, ignore the above (perfectly valid) advice and instead just find a Painite Hotspot in a metallic ring and shoot rocks with a couple of mining lasers.

This is so true: with the right set up & technique it is more profitable per hour, and can be quite a chilled activity.

For me: shieldless T10 with many many collectors and mining lances.

Straight to the point. Love it! Thanks :)

Recommended ships?

My favorite miner is a dedicated Krait Phantom with one of each mining tools per hard point .
i only carry prospector limpets and do my own “collecting” with the cargo hatch. The Ship is maneuverable enough that it’s not that big a deal. Considering that after a few mining sessions you can afford just about any ship you want so just pick the one you like to fly.

Keelback is fun for short sessions and the python works well. I keep going back to the Phantom though. Have fun out there and watch out for claim jumpers!

It took you can hour or two to find 3 rocks?

At this point, I hadn't done much research into mining and didn't know DSS's can show hotspots in rings. So, I just dropped down. And no, it didn't take me an hour or two to find 3 rocks. It probably took five to ten minutes max to find each rock, and five minutes to mine it (I don't hurry these things). I get sidetracked easily by things like pretty planets (so the trip itself took a couple of hours). :D

By my second mining expedition, I ended up bypassing the vast majority of glowing asteroids, boosting from core rock to core rock. In a VO hotspot I found 5 cores in a roughly straight traverse of around 1200 kms.

I also only used prospectors once I had visually identified the fissures in my headlights.

Boosting over 550 in the Clipper helps cover ground between them quickly.

not Even the bright yellow ones.

I haven't had any success with the bright yellow ones. Red ones have worked best for me. Though I've only been out on three or four mining expeditions since the update, and I'm still not really sure how to spot the differences (though all the guides I've seen didn't work for me!).

Ah yes, one thing that did work for me very well was when I mined in the ring's shadow (only did this once). Turn on night mode, and the fissures are much easier to see. And you get additional fun by turning of night mode and trying to avoid the now invisible asteroids. :D
