Ramming damage to shields?

Where is damage applied to shields as a result of a ram attack? I'm asking from the perspective of the "rammer" if that matters. Logic would suggest Kinetic HP, but I doubt its that simple.

It's absolute damage and ingores resistances. Pips reduce that damage though. Ram damage is calculated by speed and ship mass of both ships. Stations, rocks, etc. have a fixed ram damage.

Good information! I wish I understood more about this: Running 4 pips to sys takes less absolute damage when ramming?

Unless someone wants to start pulling actual figures, this is /thread. Well and concisely explained.

Getting T-boned by a Cutter at full throttle is the very pinnacle of this!

I had a T10 called "Hammerhead" that utilized ramming to drop NPC shields, then full frag cannons to finish the job. There weren't very many ships with shields that could survive the initial ram, but because I had pips to shields, I rarely lost more than a single ring of my own.

Other fun ships to try this with are the Vulture and Fed Gunship. Max out hull reinforcement and get your game of bumpercars goin...

Sorry I have no stats to post but I've rammed enough with pips 402, 240 and 042 to tell you your shield ring loss is lower with 4 to shields.
Wing with someone and experiment and see for yourself.

Not sure what you're arguing with bud. CK stated that resistances don't alter damage but pips do, I affirmed that, and you're telling me I'm wrong because pips do alter damage.

Eh?

Is ramming frowned upon by the competitive PvP crowd?

I'm not exactly competitive, but I can assure you that ramming isn't frowned upon. It's often difficult because ramming a decent FA Off pilot isn't as easy as nailing some NPC 'conda in the face with your cutter, but it's still often viable.

And to be fair, "frowned upon" is a loose thing for PvP. Provided you don't actually cheat, many will have the attitude that going into a fight handicapping yourself is lunacy - if one has to fight dirty to win, then with muchos dirt will one fight.

Someone wanted numbers? I'll give you numbers
