In all that time you surely have seen and been aware of the fact that bindings sometimes get lost during an update and its best to back them up before that.

Frontier's been developing this game since 2012, in all that time they surely have seen and been aware of the fact that bindings sometimes get lost during an update and fixed the issue before deploying a new update? ;)

A very elaborated plot by the Federation to prevent Alliance aligned CMDRs from turning the galaxy green ;)

Sneaky Feds, messing around with ship controls of CMDRs not aligned to them. Luckily I planned ahead and still have my back up, back up of the back up and custom settings back up of the back up.
I'm soooo c00l and l33t :p

There’s like 3 accounts, and a pile of work.

But with 3.3 I haven’t really touched Elite.
I had a project I was poking at, out in the California Nebula.
The smart folks t HQ have been working hard to get ahead of the game.

But any sense of pride and achievement has gone for me.

I found myself desperately missing flying my old Blenheim MkIV bomber around the Cliffs of Dover.
And I thought I would set that up when I got back from the morning’s drive.

But trying to remember all the flight controls needed for a peculiar twin propeller engine bomber and it’s strange analog bombsight? I cleaned the fishtank and cooked the fam a Sunday roast instead.


It was pretty disappointing to think “Oh, I’ll just do an hour in Elite - at least I’m set up there”
And then to search for *.binds on drive after drive. I’ve survived one at least dot point update since 3.3.0 so there must be a backup here somewhere.
But there isn’t.

I think what what happened is that my binds choices hadn’t quite settled down. I’d broken out a new throttle quad to cope with all the extra garbage that came with the F.F.S. scanners. Still trying to decide what feels more “natural” on a bunch of things.

I’ve put a lot of time money effort and advocacy into this game over the years.
And I still read the forums.
But you need to still be playing to post with any credibility. So mostly I just hand out rep where it is due.


Anyway, for me now with no bindings backup it is just as hard to set up the old bomber as it is to get my spaceship reconfigured so that I can fly it again.

Bombers it is then.

A couple of things that might help...

If you ever changed part of your bindings, there'll be a .backup file in your bindings folder. You can restore that and only need to re-bind whatever the change was.

If you have 3 accounts, you don't need to re-bind all of them. Just do one and the others will automatically use your new bindings file as long as they're on the same computer. If you have 3 gaming computers with identical controls, you can copy your binds file from one computer to the others.

Remember to back up your bindings folder once you have it sorted. Bindings can be lost for reasons other than FD updates as well.
