CMON then BOY!!!!

People need to stop calling everything they're not 100% comfortable with "griefing". I send out a warning first, asking people to pick a side or be treated as enemy when I see somebody loitering around at warzones, since there are some who likes to avoid picking a side just to be able to sneak up on you later while you're preoccupied. But one shouldn't be surprised if others aren't as accomodating. It is a warzone after all, you should expect to be fired upon.

I have a grim (but satisfying) plan for players that attacked me just for the sake of killing me for no real reason other than to break my toys and ruin what I have earned:

The Plan:

- patiently wait until pilot posted bounty's are implemented.
- review my little Black Book.
- 100,000 bounty on him.
- watch to see it payed.
- 100,000 bounty on him
- watch to see it payed
- 100,000 bount.. well, you get the idea.

At some point he will lose his will to live or even log on. And at that time bad player behavior will have proper consequences.

Okay, I am a newbie here, so pardon my ignorance....

But isn't insurance all that you will lose in this case?

i.e. get destroyed in war zone, insurance pays out?

reason I ask is.. I haven't died yet, I am that new.

edit: I am talking about the game, not any real life war zone

That's basically correct. It costs me about 22k to replace a Viper with full kit. About 1/3 that to just get a stock
Viper back

I'm thinking of making a video of the warzones - which means I'm not interested in fighting - just taking video of the battle. That also means I'm not going to choose a faction, so, basically you'd be shooting me down despite 1) Not firing a weapon, and 2) Not declaring a side?

Please.

And who made you Space Justice? "MORTAL YOU ARE NOT CHOOSING A SIDE - PREPARE TO BE FIRED UPON".

Video games are supposed to be fun and taken lightly. There isn't as much of a problem with "gankers" nor "PKers" as there is a problem with sore losers.

So a neutral player ganked in a combat zone is by definition a sore loser? Was there a contest that he lost? The contest of stalking a combat zone for neutral players and competetively killing them from ambush?

If I had some reason to be in a combat zone [edit] without choosing a side [/edit], like filming a cool YT video, I'd be furiously messaging ALL other players on the radar, probably with a macro.

I AM NOT A COMBATANT - FILMING FOR ELITE YOUTUBE VIDEO - PLEASE DO NOT TARGET ME - I AM NOT HOSTILE! THANK YOU!

And I'd be absolutely sure to have hardpoints stowed. :)

And then they'd shoot you anyway!

.... because, you know, any behaviour is acceptable against unaligned players because they might be about to *do* something!

The "offence is the best defence" mantra is getting a bit worn....

Presumably letting the other ship fire first provides more of a challenge - it seems odd that PvP proponents ("because it's more challenging") don't want that challenge....

[EDIT] I get that it is a warzone - however shooting any unaligned players also loses potential allies.... [/EDIT]

Your plan is almost the definition of griefing.

Indeed.

I'm wondering if even that is enough, given earlier posts by people who seem inclined to shoot at neutral players.

To the guys who are shooting at neutral players: at the end of the day, you're just trying to justify your behaviour with flimsy excuses; You'd be perfectly justified in attacking me IF I started shooting at you whilst being marked as neutral. You are not justified in any way to fire upon neutrals unless and until they've either chosen a side or have fired upon you, and no amount of excuses are justification for your unprovoked attack.

Talk about a knee jerk reaction. I never said I was space justice. This is a bloody warzone we're talking about, and I already mentioned there are those that likes to sneak up on people under the "neutral" flag. If you sent me a message stating you were filming a video I would probably leave you alone, but if you wander into a warzone without stating anything as such and loiter around for an extended amount of time then don't be surprised if you're fired upon. It's not like "Oh, I'm just here to film a cool youtube video" is the norm.

If you want to make a video you might want to get some people together and do this in a private group where you can actually get some coordination going. There's a reason these options exist.

Hard points not deployed. Ganked for showing on the scanner as a hollow box.

If you feel threatened by any hollow box, and want to fire on thema pre-emptively I suspect those Elite Federation auto-bounties will become quite tiresome.

That means very little. It takes only a second to deploy hard points and I have been jumped by these "neutral" players before. Lesson learned the hard way. And like I said, I will even ask them to pick a side way before I would even think about firing on them and if they reply back in a friendly manner stating their reason for not doing so I will most likely leave them alone, so don't try to demonize me with your "griefer" and "ganker" labels. I'm probably one of the more friendly players you'll find, but that doesn't mean I'm gullible. If you feel that loitering around a warzone where there's lasers and projectiles flying all over the place should be perfectly safe then open play is probably not the right mode for you.

Yup, seems the only way to get peace and quiet is to play solo.. and it's only getting worse.

We really need an Omega 13.. :D

Well, personally I've played competitive space PvP for years, and sit-aw is the key to success.

When I see hollow markers, I keep tabs on them, but I don't try to pre-emptively take them out. If somebody is vectoring towards me, either move away to make engagement hard / impossible, or turn towards them and find out what they want. If their approach seems to spell trouble, I deploy hard points in warning and get ready to respond to aggression.

The above assumes I'm flying something capable of fighting whatever that hollow symbol is, if I'm not, I'm way more skittish and emphasise the keeping my distance / running away side of the equation.
