No matter how little sense it makes to do this, remember .........

Next time your found
With your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned
So look around
Just what makes that little old ant
Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can't
Move a rubber tree plant
But he's got high hopes
He's got high hopes
He's got high apple pie
In the sky hopes

Good Luck but count me out...

From everything I've read about Elite Dangerous, it is on a 10 year development plan.

I'm not sure where you read that. The original plan in FD's financial reports said its development lifespan was planned at 8 years. They re-iterated that 8 year plan in each financial report since then. Every year, FD says it has an 8 year plan for ED. Every few months, someone on the forums mentions this "10 year plan".

Every year in writing, it's an 8 year plan. That is, planned for 8 years.

8, not 10.

I think Braben once made a fairly vague comment in reply to someone asking how long the game will last.

That was taken as gospel by a lot here on the forum.

This was indeed sarcasm.

If you have to explain the nature of your comment, you're either doing sarcasm wrong...or you're engaging with someone whose fashion proclivities include dungarees & a straw hat.

As far as "second kickstarter" is concerned, OP? Goddammit man, haven't we all suffered enough with our broken dreams & promises of what should've been?!

I stare into the ether contemplating Frontier's vision of thrilling 'multi-crew' & recall Luke & Han fighting off TIE fighters with an empty, melancholic distant longing....

*sniffs* ....whoa, that's good quality , I'll use that guy again!!

EDIT: Robert? Is that you, you little tinker? Ahh Moderators, thank sweet Jebus for your wholesome, capricious & expedient efforts in the field of censorship.

We are talking about contract work. We are the client, Fdev is the contractor. If both parties agree, it would be a chance. Surely there are pitfalls, but they must not be discussed in this early stage.

Gee, what a bountiful prospect to go from sovereign company to a lowly contract-taker. I'm sure they are all buzzed at the studio from the outlook to have a bunch of rabid fans draft demands in their contract they never wanted.

So you believe FD will add elite feet, planetary landings, cities, EVA, underwater exploration, etc. into the game without a surge of popular support and cash?
Look - I’m new to this game. I didn’t know it existed before May 2018.
...
I’m sure Fdev will continue to update the game but I’m less sure it will include all the things that most people seem to want. If they said to us - thanks for the interest, but we’ve got this covered - then we’d know. We could stop talking about it and complaining. We wouldn’t do any fundraising.
All I’m proposing is that we come up with a realistic list of new content and open a dialogue with fDev to see if there is anything we can do as a community to help them achieve those goals.
...
You're new, you will learn, Fdev suck at communication. It would be literally impossible to open up a dialogue with them (unless you own a YouTube channel). Four months ago (ish), they teased a new era for Elite in 2019. That was it! No hint as to what it might even relate to, just that it was paid DLC and they reprioritised ice planet improvements because of it.

Excuse me, but as a dev (not frontier) I highly object to this. It's either ignorance or stupidity.
It is usually not the devs who decide what does or does not get developed, it is management.
Yea, apologies for that, wasn't hating on the devs (I'm sure the devs doing Fallout76 never wanted what management pushed out on their customer base), and I could've worded it better, it's the marketing team (or Mr B) selling the dream and management who won't give the time needed to see those... promises come to fruition.

There's no need for any further fundraising
...
They've got a paid expansion due out at some point this year which will no doubt include at least some of the communities most requested features. They're just not going to reveal it's content until they're ready to do so, yes it sucks that Frontier are so secretive but you'll get used to it.
Been here since 2.3 and I still hate the awful communication from Fdev, but I am looking forward to what's coming (so long as it's atmospheric landings :)).

The first kickstarter spoke of stealing players ships, hunting dino's on earth like worlds, location damage on all ships, walking (third person shooter stylee), planetary landings, a functioning economy, comets, gas giants (as in flying thru the upper clouds), an offline mode and a <redacted> ton of other stuff (google DDF)... so we're still waiting for those to be fullfilled - how would a second kickstarter be any different?

The first one hasn't finished delivering yet - we've still got the god-like powers of the DDF members to look forward to.

Here a better idea for people who want to give money away. Have a Donate Button. So players can choose how much they want to donate. We could call it a Tip Jar.

We are always talking about how the huge changes we want to see in Elite Dangerous would require a massive overhaul such that it would amount to creating an entirely new game on top of the one we currently have.

Nope we are not always talking about that at all.

Something similar only comes up when we talk about adding FPS/FPA mechanics (elite-feet) to the game, which for many, if not most, is not a priority at all.

B I N G O !

And all in one thread too - nice work!

I think getting them to provide more than the underwhelming Horizons to round out the lifetime expansion pass would be a good start before they see but a penny more of my cash *cough* atmospheric landings *cough*.

Nice idea, but you have to remember the original Kickstarter promised a hell of a lot in the pitch videos which have yet to materialise and then you have the DDFs that people bought into (I didn't and at the time I regretted it, but retrospectively seeing how much of the DDFs have been seemingly archived into the too hard basket, it was a good decision).

As has been stated, the issue is not the cash. The issue is the senior management commitment to delivering what has been promised.

Edit:

So true unfortunately. Frontier espouses all are valued but there is a definite first among equals attitude that prevails.

1. Because the game is not free. They've sold enough copies to raise the money by themselves.

2. Because when it comes to commercial projects (which this game is) kickstarter is just a way to not share your profit with your investors.
