Reminder: Arena + VR = Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh

This is some public outreach. Many space heads need some of this in their life... :D

Had a fun session yesterday. It's still crazy low on population, and I'd prefer to be playing Team Deathmatch rather than having to opt for the feral killing fields of Deathmatch. (Even if it was still kinda entertaining when the numbers at least hit 4+ ;))

When it comes together it's still grand though :). Get in there and have a tussle if you haven't for a while ;)

Hat tip to Cmdr Supersekret for coming out on top in a run of games. Even if I helped by trying to straight joust their Eagle way too many times :D

(Here's a vid of sketchy 'pro' action, for those that like sound and such)

I have had a go at CQC in VR, but it was not 'fun'.

Not because of the gameplay or the graphics. All of that was great.

It was that there was one other player. Who sat still for 2 mins. I blew him up once before realising he was not reacting. So stopped myself and sat near him waiting. Then he started to move a bit. I fired a few shots after 30 secs or so and he slightly reacted before logging out.

I guess I won that game.

CQC could be great fun. But as we all know. Players numbers are so low it is next to pointless.

Never an issue finding matches on evenings during weekends.
Unfortunately, like OP mentioned, only "deathmatch" is populated.

I filmed all that just yesterday, off peak, during the day. Played for about three hours in the end I think. Admittedly at least a third of it was duelling with single guys (either because I didn't want to noob stomp the other players, or because it was just us), but over half of it snowballed into 4 player + matches, peaking at 7 players I think.

Not ideal, and I think you need both luck and dedication (or organisation, via the discord). But not dead ;)

Nope.

Nothing is going to get me to tarnish that perfect 0% CQC rating until the entire system is integrated into the main game, the way it should have been from the beginning.

Your loss ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It sure is a fun distraction from the main game (especially on longer exploration trips) and approve of any attempt to make it more popular [up].

You probably won't find me in the other modes besides deathmatch however, since I prefer to play CQC when I feel like it and not commit to "appointments".

VR in the main game is very well done - no question. In CQC, I personally think it's an even better gaming experience.
My main gripe with VR is the screen-door effect, but with the fast combat nature of CQC, you really don't have time to notice it.
ED/CQC, is still perhaps the best VR game I've played...

No, the fact that Arena is separated from the rest of the game is everyone's loss, including yours.

Sure. Doesn't change the fact that I'm having a lot of fun with it in its current form. (And that you're abstaining from it on really bizarre grounds. IE waiting for something that probably won't ever happen.)

So is acupuncture

You enjoy acupuncture? Guess that explains all the grumpy posts :D

Yeah it is very tight. And I'd definitely rank the best moments (one of those classics where you twist through two or three bits of geometry and escape your pursuer - possibly hearing them splang/boom off something behind you :D), or a closely contested victory, as in my top 5 VR experiences for sure :)

I would love to play more CQC. I think it is great option if one kind of wants to come back into the game but lacks the motivation for its pace. But! after a never ending pause from the game, I decided to play some CQC this week. I left the game in the lobby searching for players for about 40 minutes in many occasions, and the one time it managed to find just one player, guess what; the game crashed. Classical Elite.

Anyway, I might try it again today after seeing this post.

I should get into CQC again... but dammit they need to add a few things - bots when there aren't full teams, the ability to have friends join the same game and side, customizing match rooms so you can adjust said settings (no bots option, random sides option) and so on.

Just a few settings tweaks could make it a much better experience.

Damnn :D

Yeah, it's still very much hop on and hope out there. A pain when it doesn't pan out, but at least it's still fun when it works I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(I think one thing that helps is, because it's so damn full on in VR, I sometimes don't mind just having a few short rounds. The more I get my VR legs though, the more I want full games on tap :D)

Maybe see you on there tonight B!

That's weird. In my game I can access it from the menu - I don't need to load another game at all. I don't feel any sense of loss, either, as there is nothing lost.

But it would be nice if it was connected better somehow. Granted you can't have the game truly co-exist within the main game without some kind of artificial construct (ie a force field that prevents non-competitors from ganking the Arena) but they should have ways to better integrate it into the main game. For example, signing up to play in CQC while playing Solo/PG/Open and being informed when your lobby is full and ready to go. That way you aren't waiting forever for it to fill with nothing to do. That's just one example.
