Elite micro-transactions

I bought Elite Dangerous when it was first released but never played it much. I just updated the game and have started playing again. I'm enjoying the game but there is one thing that bothers me...A LOT. I hate having micro-transactions in my games. I would much rather see a dlc that included all the cosmetic stuff in the dlc rather than have micro-transactions in my game. Heck I'd probably buy the pack just so they wouldn't be in my game. So I am proposing that Frontier does just that, create a dlc pack that includes all the micro-transactions in the game and sell it as a single dlc. Is this feasible at all?

No

It seems that they have decided to utilise cosmetics purchases as a revenue stream. Therefore there is no danger of a subscription model.

Since all purchases are cosmetic with no pay-to-win elements and no "loot-boxes" - you don't actually have in-game micro-transactions. You have to specifically seek out a purchasable item in-game (I ignore the launcher shop advert) so I really don't see how this could possibly be something that bothers anyone " ...A LOT ".

Welcome back to the game.

Feasible probably, welcome not really especially as the cost of all the cosmetics in the store is much higher than the game itself.

Just to add this post would probably have been more appropriate in the suggestions forum.

The cosmetics are exactly what I'm talking about. I don't really view wanting to change your ships appearance as seeking out purchasable content. Like most games with micro-transactions ED does have a few free cosmetics. I don't like hitting a pay wall in games I paid for even for things like cosmetics.

The cost is part of problem and frankly makes little sense. You wind up with a very small percentage of players paying for the cosmetics, which causes the developers to cater to a small subgroup of players. This is becoming a problem in gaming in general. Let me ask you this, would you rather 5 people gave you a dollar, or have 100 people give you a quarter? Most businesses and even governments understand that having many people give a little is better than a few people giving you a lot. I'm guessing that having most of their player base buying a reasonable priced cosmetics pack is better than having a small number of players buying overly priced cosmetics. Besides, it's not like they can't have both, it's just that the people who buy the cosmetics pack would no longer see a bunch of cosmetics they can't use in game.

As for placing this in the suggestion forum, yeah you're probably right about that but I didn't see that forum when I posted and wasn't entirely sure where I should post, so here we are. A moderator is welcome to move it to that forum if they so desire.

The thing with the cosmetic microtransactions is that you can, well, ignore them. They have no gameplay impact. Last time I was in a RES, trying hard not to laser the cops, I didn't use the external camera to admire my ship kit.

The game develops over time and people need paying for their development work. If I see something I really like, I'll buy it - it's usually only a couple quid and I don't begrudge that.

YMMV though and welcome back! @@@07

I would take the dollars because getting quarters changed to real money would be more trouble.:) But I know what you mean.

If I go into livery I only see things for the ship I have so it isn't that I am seeing things I can't use but that I am seeing things I haven't got, but I find that preferable to seeing things that I had got but didn't want in the first place.

Mileages vary and all that.

It isn't a "pay wall" - you never need to make any purchases, it is entirely your choice and so complaining about it is nonsensical.

BTW - Have you actually priced-up the cost of purchasing every "game extra"? I wouldn't even waste my time trying to add them up and even if Frontier offered the whole lot at say 50% discount - the cost would be astronomical.

I really do think you need to get real and spend more time being annoyed at bugs in the game rather than inventing stuff.

Don't forget FD keeps adding more cosmetics. There would never be a finished DLC.

OK, never is a long time. The finished list of cosmetics would probably come out a week before FD pulls the plug on the server.

Don't hold your breath. :(

It has been asked for before. If it ever happens then it will be the start of the end game.

What about when they add more stuff? Do I have to wait until there's enough content for a new dlc pack just to purchase an individual item, so you won't have to see the option to buy it?

I'm ok with the microtransactions here because they are completely optional and do not contribute to play to win.

On the other hand, it would be ideal to have "packs" to save some bucks, something like what Azmuth proposes. Maybe ship-specific, like ship kit and all paint jobs for $20 USD or something. (BTW, paying $14 USD for a ship kit is just too much)
