My Main Concern with ED

Really?

The SA (Goonswarm) have started in EvE from 200 newbie ships, to 200 Titans in almost no time. They have uprooted the previous (considered evil) power bloc and took it's place. They form the game's most numerous corporation and alliance by sheer numbers, in fact some game limits were raised to accommodate their numbers. When they decide to do thing one way, it either becomes "the consensus", or the DEVs are forced to change mechanics to nerf it.

So 200 players to put on an ignore list then.

but it isn't your sandbox

Aren't you special? Don't want to play with the kids outside? Don't cry Billy, here is your own special sandbox for our little special kiddo.

And then we wonder why we live in a world where "Caution! Hot!" is printed on hot coffee cup, and people sue each other left and right.

And anyone who thinks that griefing is acceptable behaviour will be sorely disappointed. If the bounty system doesn't stop them griefing players then the ignore list/solo/private group mode will.
It may be a sandbox but it isn't your sandbox

Oh but it is. That's what the purchase of the license entitles every player to.

It is every player's sandbox. Not Braben's, not the Kickstarter backers (Which I am one) and not the people who share his opinion on what the experience should be like. Any player who purchases a copy of the game will have their place in the sandbox.

Every last one of them.

I may have been unclear, my apologies. They are not 200 anymore. Current number stands at 11,512. The "200 Titans" was to show how quickly they progressed from "annoying" to "controlling".

And keep praying to your "ignore"/"solo" button. If that remains at launch, you will have but 200 people in the world to play your offline game with.

Even better, every player can have his own sandbox, and share it with whoever he/she want.

There are not enough slow clap gifs on the internet for this man.

Edit: That is to say I agree. The other game modes exist for a reason. If someone starts throwing sand in your eyes you have the administrative power to stop them. There is absolutely no reason to think that the rest of the community should abide by your arbitrary rules when you, I, or anyone else is playing the game in it's open form.

Exactly, that is the beauty of the game. I can remove someone's ability to spoil my game if I so wish.

The £403K the goonswarm bring in should make FDs Xmas.
Of course the image of them alone in the universe on everyone's ignore lists does bring me a small satisfaction ;)

Oh, it's going to be hilarious when the Goonswarm arrives, for sure. Especially when they find out that any number of identical stations will spring into existence besides the one they're trying to control, and they can only fit 32 players at a time into an instance (if they're lucky).

And even better, you have to avoid filling the instance bubble around your ship with just your own Alliance friends, if you ever want to see other players. So let's see... if there are 11,512 Goonswarm buying the game, and (just for argument's sake) if they all get online at the same time and show up at the same station, that's 359 separate 32-player instances filled to capacity with Goonswarm talking to only themselves, and one instance left over filled 75% with them, or 24 Goons wreaking havok on the Galaxy. While everyone else in the game is off in their own overlapping instance bubbles doing their thing.

So sure, let 'em come. FD can use the income and it won't affect what everyone else wants to do in the game.

That just means that they will have an overwhelming presence in the majority of instances, and increases the likelihood of you entering their instance during open play proportionately.

The numbers still work against the average player no matter how multiplayer is handled when you're talking about a group that big.

Just learn to harass the crap out of them and use them for your own benefit. That's what everyone else does.

You either have no concept on how the core of the game will work, or are trying you best to metagame here.

The fact that the players will only have limited control over the economy, will be unable to "control" any system due to the limitation of the networking design, will not have hoarding game facilities, can be ignored on a whim, and just the sheer size of the play area means that any strategies you Goons will attempt in game is bound to fail.

The only recourse left is to push changes at the design level like many of the squad are doing right now.

Really... If you want Eve play then go play Eve.

Hahaha :D ok then. You sure told me.

Well it looks like "Eve" is here indeed, the last place I want to be is around these folks. LOL

Well, if you need me I'll be in "solo play". Please come and harass me, oh pretty please.

Honestly though, I've spent about 10 hours in "all play", I didn't see anyone too scary in there.

Any Who, still working on my controls, and setup, probably be a bit, I like to take my time to get it right.

Heck, I play (2) full time PVP games on a pretty regular basis. I have to admit the full time PVP'ers I play with are a pretty cool bunch. Going into those games you know full on, you have to kill or be killed.

So I really don't need or want PVP in my Elite Dangerous gaming experience, while I'm learning the ropes. Solo play is just fine for me, it's an interesting game, and I love that I can tune you all out. I'll probably join a group of like minded players, when the group play function get's up and running. It'll probably be a PVP group, of well rounded PVP types that are looking to push the combat experience to the limit of the game. Oh we'll visit "All Play" from time to time, but we will come and go.

It will be interesting to see how Frontier deals with this in all play though. I will be watching to see how this plays for sure.

By all means carry on. : )

PS, The Eve type of PVP crowd gives us serious PVP minded players a bad rap. Try not to forget that in the PVE crowd. Cheers.

You think less players bothers solo-online players; think again...:)

Your trade run? How are you not understanding how Elite works? That one player hauling a boot load of fish isn't going to have much impact on the trade prices, its the combined hauling of all the instances you can't get to that will.

This is meta gaming....

I for one "PLAY" (role play) a pirate. In real life im really peaceful, against war and right to carry weapons.

Im protecting my trade profit with out the knowledge that im in a so called bubble.....

you Goons

Hey, I am with the "good" guys. We fight against the tyranny of Goons.

You think less players bothers solo-online players; think again...:)

You got me there, fair and square. I'd think a community would want to increase its ranks, cause no ranks = no money for game development/continuation. But you are right, these "solo-online" players just want a single player game.

Which begs the question, why even give them the option of online? If all they care about is single-player/coop, let them chose that, but lock them there.

What a load of bull... So by your definition, if I sit outside the station, killing the guy trying to leave in his hauler over and over again, I am griefing? Right.... Has it occurred to you, that maybe I am killing him over and over because he is competing in my trade run. Yes, I am causing him loses. Yes, I am causing him frustration. Yes, I do this on purpose, so that he would leave. That is my in-game goal. If he quits the game, he is weak-minded and doesn't belong in the cutthroat deep space. If he is smart, he will get the message and take his trade elsewhere.

well hopefully if this is the case you will be put in your own "special" shard where other players of your ilk are and you can all play that way together..

people who play MP games like this make me sick to be honest, the same as spawn campers in FPSers.
