The Anaconda really is an annoyingly good ship lol

So as some of you may remember I just very recently made it to Duke, sold my Anaconda, and got my Cutter. I sold my Anaconda because I thought I wouldn't need it! Trading? Cutter was better. Combat? Cutter wasn't necessarily better, but it can shield tank the Death Star in a fight. And those are really the only 2 things I usually do in the game. But the thing is I grinded nothing but Trade missions and Passenger missions for weeks to get my Cutter. So once I had the ultimate Trade ship I was burnt out on......well.....Trading. I thought that if I saw one more mission to go get Reactive Armor or Non-Lethal Weapons I might just boost myself into the nearest star.

So I decided that I would dust off my AspX and go exploring for the first time in over a year. But by the time I got 2 systems away from home I knew that I wanted a different ship than my AspX. So I thought what the heck. I'll try out the Phantom. I had heard it had replaced alot of people's Asp's so I thought I would see what the hype was about and it really is a great ship. Love the little thing, but I still didn't really feel at home. See I have flown almost nothing but large ships ever since I got my first Type-7. I've grown used to the ships I fly having some weight to them. The Phantom feels light as a feather and it throws me off.

I think to myself "Well I will just strip my Cutter down to bones and go exploring in it!" and go to Coriolis to experiment with some builds. But it becomes very clear very quickly that the Cutter is not exactly the best ship for the job. At best with my current modules (I don't have Guardian FSD booster) that I could only get my Cutter to about 35.5ly. And yeah thats enough to go exploring and yeah I know jump range isn't everything, but good lord does it help make life better.

So with that option gone I look up builds for Large exploration ships. And what do I find? Anaconda city.

I had completely forgotten that the Conda was the jump king. Mine had always be outfitted as a fully capable combat hauler. So its jump range was nothing to write home about. Not mention that I hadn't done much serious exploring since I did a few roads to riches back when I first started the game. So I never NEEDED a big ship that could jump far. I mean throwing the EXACT SAME build on the Conda that I tried out on my Cutter got me 53lys. Damn near 20 extra lys worth of jump for a ship that is roughly the same physical size as my Cutter, but since its hull is made from fairy dust and dreams it gets the mega numbers while other ships get squat. Its just crazy how good the Anaconda is in some areas.

So here I am just week and some change after getting my Cutter and I am already looking at needing another Anaconda. I feel like a fool for ever selling mine in the first place. I thought I wouldn't need an Anaconda anymore.

I think I am gonna call my new Anaconda Whitesnake because

I have two Anaconda's. :D

Lovely ship.
One is a battlewagon, the other is for everything else.

I tried the Corvette out, and deemed it not worth the grind, and went back to my Annie. I don't have access to the Cutter, but because I don't like imperial ships, it's already not worth the grind (heck, the Clipper wasn't even worth the grind.. lol).

Still need to try out the T9 & 10 though...

I skipped on both the Anaconda and Corvette, because of the bridge in the back. Since I had the rank anyway and was persuaded to do so here on the forum, I tried the Corvette and like it for the most part.

T9 and T10 are first and foremost slow (no surprise there) and escaping an interdiction can be a bit harder than in any other ship, but they have their purpose. Shock cannon T10 is fun (for assassinations, because of the limited ammo).

My largest exploration ship is an Orca, the removal of the specialised module slots made it rather versatile.

Damn. I just realized how much work its gonna take for me switch back to a Conda and engineer a Size 6 FSD. I may end up just getting the Guardian FSD out of necessity and trying out the Cutter anyway now that I am actually looking at it.

I mean the Cutter can't be THAT bad at exploration can it?

no but its an empty slot so why not, use your imagination put what you want in there - you dont need the 2T fuel but i do that to squeeze plottable range while not impacting fuel tank too much.

Makes sense. I'll have to play around with it in Coriolis.

I had a very similar experience, I grinded rank for the Cutter first before the Corvette. I loved it's looks, it's style, it's famous shield tanking and it looks so good I said it twice. Excited as I was to have the money to A rate it straight out of the box my disappointment was crushing.

Having sold it very soon I've since tried the Cutter a few times and never liked it. At all. The Corvette, however... Wow, it's magnificent, I have it equipped entirely with multicannon and engineered to the highest level I can manage. It's a beast, it goes full dakka dakka dakka on anything that dares get in its path. It's the step up I expected of the big three.

I love the Anaconda, I can't stand the Cutter, the Corvette is the battleship I was promised. I wish I'd known this before I did the imperial grind, although shipping a Corvette to Colonia is a little bit expensive, even in this age of void opals although the imperial grind did generate a lot of credits!

Anaconda can be a great multipurpose ship, that can do all sorts of stuff, still maintaining nice shields and weapons. But it sounds like a bus. Orca can have superior speed with really decent shields, when trading these for jump range and weaponry. Asp Explorer doesn't sound like a bus, and can be engineered to have nice jump range with nice weapons.

I currently have 3 Anacondas. IMO the Anaconda is the most flexible large-landing-pad capable ship in terms of all the roles it can effectively carry out and arguably one of the most powerful.

I have Cutters, Corvettes, a Type-10 but when I need a large ship I use my Anacondas more than any of these others. o7

I sold my Cutter.
redid my Warconda and I have my Warvette.
So I go head and tails which one to take out, both are amazing.

Change that engine plant for a 2A Overcharged and striped down maybe. Bonus 0.06Ly :)

to be honest my personal preference for the EXplorca is as so

this gives you ~+1LY

scoops cooler and runs cooler, of course everyone's free to load out their way though, but a 6B scoop is how i roll to achieve the power needs^^ although loads of folk will throw tomatoes at the suggestion of a 6b scoop

one step further is using my legacy Engineered low emission PP and getting all the above benefits while still packing a 6A scoop!

I have a Cutter, Annie, and Vette.. they all have their place.

The Cutter is my trade ship, I call it the "Credit Cutter". Nothing makes me money faster. 700 tons of profit.

The Vette is for fighting. Period. Even with a Guardian FSD booster it's range sux. Mid 20's.. Ugh. But two huge engineered LR beams will melt an Eagle on the first pass.

The Annie.. I use that for passenger missions, long range travel, and general poking around. Mid 60's jump range with a few passenger cabins ( and Guardian FSD tech ), mid 50's with weapons and cabins. I call it the "Buze Croozer". Great multi purpose ship. Exploring and passengers, for me, it's a must have. It will do a very respectable job in combat and trade, too. Great ship. I still don't love it tho. Not like I did my pre-Nerf Python...

I mean the Cutter can't be THAT bad at exploration can it?

If you are considering the Cutter, I would suggest that you check out the Beluga. More usable internal slots, so you have more options for what extra stuff to bring along. And if get home sick, the Beluga will take you home a bit faster....

And if you want a "smaller" ship, the Orca is also making for a good explorer, with a few less internal slots, and is even better better if you get homesick.

And if you are out for "terrible", then I do suggest the Type 10. You want that double spoiler to impress those ELW:s out there!
