Tried watching the recent Twitch stream...

Threads like these makes me lose hope in the collective intelligence of humanity.

1. As StaurtGT and Shadowdancer said, "Watching people making idle conversation while playing a game" is the whole point of game streaming.
2. You are not forced to watch the stream
3. It is repeatedly being told that these streams as well as the upcoming Frontier Xtra stream are not feature announcement stream.
4. FDev caters to a lot of gamers and I believe many like these kind of streams. I personally don't (surprise!) but unless we figure out how to handle multiple realities things like these will continue happening. At least people will have a choice to not watch.

I am pretty sure similar threads will pop up starting Friday after the stream.

The vast majority of streamers aren't succesful, only those that are entertaining by themselves are.

I consider being flagged as a top 1% uploader by my ISP for wasting 'their' bandwidth success enough. No one even has to watch my streams.

You are a skilled player though, there is worth in your videos if one is looking for that.

Hey there guys!

Just wanted to jump here and clarify: the purpose of our lunchtime Twitch (and now across YouTube and Mixer) livestreams is to touch base with the Elite Dangerous community, to have a little fun and a chat.

When we have something to announce to the community as a whole, you'll find it via our forums, social channels, newsletters and sometimes via a pre-announced livestream. :)
Could you channel some of your CM activities to the issues people are having with the 3.3 update? There have been quite a lot of debates about the current state of the BGS and apart from a post by Ed (who no longer works for Frontier) one month ago there aren't any updates. Maybe you could check with the team if they believe that everything is working as intended, and if not, which issues they are currently working on?

I guess you're not a regular Twitch viewer then.

You'll find most people on these forums wouldn't be.

Maybe it's an age or generation thing(most ED players I know are older than me and I'm 34!) but I personally don't get the draw of Twitch. Nor do I get the draw of battle royals.

The problem is that FD is using modern advertisement tactics on a fan base who largely doesn't like it.

If they would just take a nice YouTube video with talking points about future updates I'm sure it would go over better with this audience.

Why? It is just a few randoms complaining for no real reason, am sure many actually enjoyed the stream. Humans like to complain.

Am sure like most sane people, the community managers take on-board the constructive criticism, ignore the pointless moaning

If you want information about updates, then these streams are probably not meant for you.

Every time I watch one of the lunchtime streams, and they are good entertainment while eating, some new folks come in, show interest and ask about the game.

I'm more than 10 years older than you and I prefer twitch over Netflix or TV. I feel like I'm too old for the whole Games of Thrones or other series stuff.

Maybe actually playing with them might help. I can tell you that the PvP community for example will always support newcomers. Same goes for the BGS crowd. But hoosting streams where you go solo-exploring ... meh. Not quite the entertaining part of Elite, especially when the locations are not special. I can explore by myself and go to the interesting things if i wish whereas in a stream ... there isn't much to 'discover'.

I just don't understand how Will can be such a terrible pilot. He says he plays in his spare time but he honestly fly's like a total rookie. He gives me the impression that he only ever plays during the livestreams and even then it he looks forced and doesn't enjoy it. Well, I suppose we all can't enjoy our jobs

They said many times that playing on stream and being aware of few hundred or few thousand people watching your every move make this a lot more stressing and harder to concentrate.

I'm 24 and rarely watch streams.

Why would I watch someone else have an adventure when I can have one myself?

Well, I tried watching a few Frontier streams, but I couldn't stay on for long, it made me cringe too much.

I'm not talking about the discussion (or subject) of their streams here, I can't judge because I never watched for long enough to have an opinion.

I'm talking about the abysmal level of gameplay displayed by some of Frontier's staff. I just don't find it interesting to watch a "bad player" struggle in front of an audience.

Well I'm 36 and I watch Twitch a lot...

Okay, but as posted above it's not that common. Your age bracket is only 7% of Twitch viewership.

90% of twitch viewers are younger than 34.

The average age of gamers are 34.

http://www.theesa.com/about-esa/industry-facts/

So clearly older gamers don't watch twitch at the rates as younger ones do by a drastic amount.

While we don't have actual numbers on the average ages of Elite players the older thread of ages a few years ago that at least the forum goers were definitely older ages.

So maybe they can try and engage older gamers with another method as well as engaging younger players with Twitch.

I'm 38 and enjoy joining Twitch streams simultaneously with other gaming activities. There are many benefits to developers streaming their games and directly interacting with their communities.

I can understand that some are disinterested in the platform/media, but that's their loss :)

I also don't assume that the Elite Dangerous fanbase largely don't like watching livestreams.
