It would be unimaginably stupid IMO to drop VR support.

Other than the sound and music, the only thing they've done brilliantly in ED is the visuals, which are often breathtakingly gorgeous, and having had a brief go with a Rift, even more so in VR.

Everything else in the game is riddled with compromises, and for them to drop VR just as VR is starting to be good enough for the mainstream - as even PC Pro magazine reported recently - would be utterly insane.

I'm considering making what would be for me a huge investment in a Vive Pro plus the GFX to drive it in the nearish future, and it would be mostly for playing Elite. I'd prefer to keep all the bugs, all the stupid little immersion breakers, all the clickety-click-click-click in the UI, than lose VR.

Dammit, this does sound bad. On the other hand, why are there so many cockpit details in new ships that you can't see except in VR?

I certainly don't want to trade VR for space legs :( :(

You of all people should understand the paranoia of disappearing features :p

The signs were more obvious with macOS than a couple of missing logos. Though I would agree that Frontier don't emphasise VR the way they used to, perhaps the considerable cost means it hasn't taken off in the way that was hoped.

With 3 million psvr headsets sold there’s a ready made market just waiting to take the plunge! My guess is the PS4 couldn’t run it but the pro might?

I remember loving it on a dk1 so the psvr is worth a shot IMO

Edit ... psvr changed to psoriasis with spell check! Lol

I used to use VR all the time in ED but now I prefer 4k TBH.

Although I really don't think they will drop VR, zero chance of that! It is one of the big selling points of the game because it has been executed so so well.

Hey guys, nothing to worry about! We simply slimmed down some of the headers and footers of the website and as such the VR logos are no longer there. This doesn't have any bearing on our support for the game :)

Thank you very much for this clarification! So VR support in the game will stay or are you only referring to the website? ;)

Hi Harvey
thx for chimin in and making this statement.

See - for many months now - especially since the somewhat uninspired comments of DB about VR in general in that interview - there has been little to 0 comments from an official rep about the relevance and (envisioned) progress for VR in ED.

Hope you can push the bar up on that one...

The only reason I personally never bought into the VR hype (which is a justified hype, because it is awesome) for ED is that... if FDev is delivering on its plans to add FPS/FPA gameplay to ED, I believe the VR experience will be in trouble... it will be for me personally anyhow. That is why I refuse to get used to VR in ED.
VR works very well when the player is seated in a vehicle, but not so well when you are quickly moving around/turning around on the level of a human being.
For some (if not many) the nimble SRV is already problematic in VR. FPA/FPS will only exaggerate those problems.

I do not believe FDev will drop VR support however. So many cmdrs just love ED in VR. I think there would have to be serious technical problems for them to drop VR support (remember the MAC).

I don't know of any VR experience worse than the SRV for motion sickness. Judging by /r/Oculus, I think the motion sickness thing is a bit overblown at this point. It seems like a significant number of people are capable of acclimating to the point where they can tolerate smooth locomotion in first person. There are also comfort features, like narrowing FOV to alleviate any sickness. I don't think FPS elements in ED are a problem for VR, especially if the SRV wasn't a show stopper.

I'm glad I was brought up on a shrimp boat.[hehe]

Hi VR fellows,

as you may have noticed, FD have recently updated their ED site (elitedangerous.com). While the new site looks much more professional and flashy (optimized for generations who prefer visuals over text and have a short attention span, possibly), two things struck me:

1. All the hardware vendor logos (Thrustmaster, Saitek, TrackIR, Logitech and so on) are gone. Including Oculus.
2. Steam (Vive) is only listed as a distribution channel, along with XBox and PS4. No mentioning of Oculus store anywhere.
3. There is zero mentioning of VR support being a game feature at all anymore.

Now while the reason behind this may be trivial, fears have been around since long that FD might drop VR support one day, and the "exciting, brilliant" thing around the corner (space legs, atmo planets) might be a suitable reason.

Do you think this may be indicative in some way? Without VR, ED most certainly would not be a game I'd like to play anymore :(

Space legs confirmed :D

Funny really, I`m your Ying to your yang.

Used to play in 4k,
then last year my
TrackIR cable snapped. (sob, sob sniff, sniff, brought her in 2002)
So I dipped my toe in the water and brought a Levo WMR set,

One day I`ll get a soldering iron and fix the little blighter.

Anyhoo have so rep.[up]
