Incentive/Reward for reaching Elite

Dear FDev I just hit Elite in exploration the other day after four years playing. I already knew the reward was access to Shinatra Dezra, but it was still a massive anti climax after 1406 hours, more than any other game I've played. Please consider giving us more incentive/reward for our efforts, even if it was just a paint job that would be something worthwhile. Shinatra Dezra isn't special, we can get 5% more discount at Diaguandri.

Thank you! O7

First, if it took you over 1400 hours to achieve Exploration Elite, you are doing something very wrong. Exploration Elite can be had in a matter of days and Trade Elite can be earned in your sleep. The only Elite that takes any real time or effort is Combat Elite, requiring the destruction of literally thousands of ships.

And yes, the Triple Elite decals is very cool.

Some players will get there quickly, some slowly, depending on what they're doing. I've been Elite in Exploration for some time, but it took me more than a year to reach Elite in Trade, because I was too busy doing other things. Didn't really start to "grind" for it until I was already 80% Tycoon and decided it was about time I reached Elite.

You can get decals for each rank above the minimum in each of the three paths, so I put my Elite Exploration decal on my exploration ships and my Elite Trade on my trade ships (and somewhat ironically display my Novice Combat decal on my warships).

I think the reward is about right, given that Jameson Memorial sells everything, so I use it for the convenience even though I could get slightly better discounts elsewhere. I'm based not far from there, so I also use Jameson as a warehouse for stored modules that I've bought (e.g. Powerplay modules, that you can only buy after 4 weeks with each Power).

Wow.

Shinrarta is AWESOME - it alone is worth the two days of trading it takes to get access (ahem!).

EVERY ship, upgrade - including any Guardian you've unlocked - forevermore? that was enough for me!

Now I want ANY ship, lit over there in a stripped down Sidey, trade it in.

And the Triple is REALLY hard to get.....

Erm my suggestion was to FDev, I didn't ask for your opinions.

as hostile and anti-cooperative as this is.

I would like to reitterate that this wouldnt be a problem if frontier didnt make the back asswards desicion of removing pilots rank lockouts on missions and started nerfing all the missions into the ground.
they keep nerfing things so new players dont get instant gratification when the whole instant gratification problem is their own doing.
if they really want to fix it they have to put pilot's rank mission locking back so the new players are gated the way they want and so the seasoned players arent being hit in the face with it.

I wouldn't be averse to seeing a few special ships linked to high ranks, as long as they're not vastly superior to existing ones (and definitely nothing better for combat than the Corvette or FDL).

Some possibilities:

Exploration: a large exploration ship commissioned by Universal Cartographics and made available to Elite explorers. Size 8 FSD, jumprange comparable to the Anaconda (but a heavier ship), onboard hangar capable of carrying one Small ship (shuttle / landing craft).

Trade: Panther Clipper. More cargo than existing ships, but not by much (800-1,000t). Requires Elite in Trade. Size 7 FSD, carries one Small ship (can transfer cargo).

Combat: Federation Pocket Carrier, requires both Admiral rank and Combat Elite, good in combat, size 7 FSD, carries 3 Small ships.

Imperial Pocket Carrier, requires King and Combat Elite, lighter and faster than Fed version, size 8 FSD, carries 2 Small ships, jumprange slightly less than Exploration ship.

Alliance Pocket Carrier, no rank requirements, modest toughness and firepower, size 8 FSD, carries 2 Small ships, performance lower than Imperial version but with more cargo capacity (but still lower than a T9). Can only be bought at Jameson Memorial or in the Alioth system, requires Allied status with Alliance.

For me, gaining access to a "you can buy absolutely everything here" joint shipyard and outfitting shop was very much worth it. Yes, the discount is less than if I spend time shopping around, but I don't want to shop around. I'm willing to accept "only" 10% off the usual price if it means I can get everything in one place. I get both the convenience of getting anything I want (subject to playing Guardian mini-games if I want Guardian modules) and a small discount off the usual price, all in one easy-to-reach place.

What I'm curious about - and haven't gone looking for spoilers about because I want the fun of discovery - is what happens when I get triple Elite. I've nailed Trade and Exploration, and am 75% Deadly, only 25% away from the troika. Soon I'll have bagged all three and then I'll get to find out what the game opens up for that.

Why does there need to be an incentive other then you want to?

I know a lot of games use incentives to keep people playing, especially take battle royals, where people keep going for the 'next' reward. But those seem incredibly shallow to me, I play games to have fun, the rewards are a good and fun sidedish, doesn't need to be there, but is nice. That doesn't mean I do not understand that, 'the next thing' isn't exciting, but at least to me, when you are constantly given stuff it feels less rewarding.
